We wanted to bring attention to this great educational video created by Joseph Nowkawalk, a Grade 11 Inuit student of Sacred Heart High School. In his history class, students were asked to choose any 20th century history topic to present and Joseph chose to educate everyone about the history and culture of the Inuit. Treaties recognition week may have come and gone but it's important for us as a community to continue spreading awareness and learning about other cultures. In 2016, Ontario passed legislation declaring the first week of November as Treaties Recognition Week. This annual event honours the importance of treaties and helps students and residents of Ontario learn more about treaty rights and relationships. By learning more about our collective treaty rights and obligations, we can create greater understanding and nurture these relationships. Every year the Bruce County Museum & Cultural Centre works with schools throughout Bruce a...nd Grey Counties to deliver programming for students to learn and have a better understanding of Ontario Treaties.
