Today is Martin Luther King Day as we pay tribute to the life and legacy of the legendary American civil rights leader. The day celebrates his legacy as a leader of nonviolent activism during the Civil Rights Movement, with successful protests against racial discrimination. While it is not an official holiday in Canada, though some local governments including Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal do commemorate it, it is important we celebrate Dr. King’s accomplishments. His leading ...voice and actions contributed to the passing of The Civil Rights Act. This new law ended legal segregation of people by race in public places and banned employment discrimination on the basis of race, colour, religion, sex. This is one of the most influential legislative achievements of the Civil Rights Movement. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. - Martin Luther King Jr.
