Solid post by TFC therapist @optimize.physiotherapy Work on getting better foot core activation . This is an example of a classic foot activation exercise ...called ‘short foot’. It can be done on its own in an isolated fashion as seen in the video, but more importantly it should be done during any other exercises where your foot is in contact with the ground . Many of us are not getting the stability we need at the ground. ‘Lazy feet’ lead to more stability demands upstream when these needs are not met at the floor. Your feet are your foundation, and should be emphasized in any training regimen . This maneuver will activate the intrinsic core muscles of the foot and build strength over time, especially when combined with other exercises . Push evenly into the floor. Try to push the base of the big toe and little toe into the floor evenly. Think about pushing the webbing between the first 2 toes and last 2 toes into the floor . Try not to curl your toes as your press them evenly into the floor, they shouldn’t lift up at all . Practice this activation exercise throughout the day, ideally without shoes on. Put it into use during your training, around the house, and whenever you have your foot planted to achieve better foot function and stability . The more you do it, the more natural it becomes. Ideally the foot should reflexively activate when you need support, which will come over time #thefootcollective #foot #barefoot #balance #anatomy #physicaltherapy #training #rehab #trainer #workout #fitness #fit #crossfit #weightlifting #powerlifting #athlete #yoga #pilates #exercise #education #health #strength #ottawa See more
