Our President was on Global Halifax last night, talking about the challenges in our long-term care sector that have been exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The government needs to show respect for the hard work being done in home care and nursing homes, and make it more attractive to work in the sector: better wages and benefits, as well as consistent standards of care, would go a long way to solving their recruitment & retention issues.

We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of one of our Board of Directors, John Mortimer. John was a member of Local 1 and worked for the Department of Community Services for more than 30 years. He was an incredibly caring individual who sought to make the world and the workplace a better place for all. He will be deeply missed by his fellow union members and coworkers, as well as all of the friends he made through his involvement with the NSGEU over the years....
