The month of May is dedicated to celebrating the contributions of Canadians from over 30 Asian and South Asian countries. Asian Heritage Month is an opportunity for all Canadians to learn more about the many achievements and contributions of Canadians of Asian descent who, throughout our history, have done so much to make Canada the amazing country we share today. Through a virtual panel conversation, Department of UBC Asian Studies in collaboration with Vancouver Asian Heritage Month Society (explorASIAN) would like to explore the significance of Asian Heritage Month to Asian-Canadians today living in the Greater Vancouver area. May 2021 marks the 70th annual CMHA Mental Health week (CMHA National / ACSM National). This year the focus is on how naming, expressing, and dealing with our emotions - the ones we like and the ones we don’t- is important for our mental health. We say we’re fine, even when the truth can be very different. Every time we just go through the motions, we miss out on the chance to connect for real. In times of crisis like this, we need each other more than ever. Visit www.mentalhealthweek.ca for info and tools to #GetReal and help spread the word CMHA Mental Health Week.

From an NSIIP member: "Through NSIIP, our library became more aware of the needs for language learning in our community. We have since partnered on a much higher level with the North Shore Multicultural Society to offer more learning opportunities to a broader audience." Through collaboration with our partners, we work towards an inclusive North Shore where everyone has a sense of belonging. We support projects and lead initiatives that aim to ensure all immigrants have opportunities to fully participate economically, socially, and civically in our North Shore communities.
