On Friday, February 12th, people across Nova Scotia and the world will celebrate Lunar New Year and the start of the "Year of the Ox. In Chinese culture, the ...ox symbolizes hard work, positivity, wealth, and perseverance. It is the second sign in the Chinese zodiac. Nova Scotian artist Maud Lewis is widely known for her paintings of oxen which, as in Chinese culture, represent joy and delight. Oxen are valued animals. #LunarNewYear #YearoftheOX

Nova Scotia's population has reached an all-time high as a result of immigrants and people from other provinces who are choosing to make their homes here. The 6,393 immigrants who came to Nova Scotia from July 1, 2018 to July 1, 2019 is the most seen in annual records since the Second World War. The province's recent growth began in 2015. Nova Scotia continues to set records for attracting immigrants. The province has welcomed 3,393 new residents so far this year, 428 more than the same period last year. In 2018, 5,970 new permanent residents immigrated, the most yet in one year. The Office of Immigration works with others to identify labour gaps and helps fill the demands.
