This is what Ontario needs...MPP’s who speak up for everyday workers. Thank you Jamie West Sudbury MPP for calling out Fenner Dunlop for locking out it’s USW District 6 employees for wanting to keep their paid sick days. #solidarity #bracebridge #EndTheLockout #usw
A quick reminder. Members of our community who work for Fenner Dunlop have been locked out of their workplace since February 12th. This lockout is attempting to... force local workers into accepting drastic cutbacks to sick day provisions, shift premiums and income protections during a pandemic. They will need a lot more support to get through this but for now, they need to see that their community supports them. We support IBEW Local 636 and the amazing Environment & Infrastructure workers at the City of Orillia. We call on the City of Orillia to negotiate in good faith and to continue to strive to a respectful and fair settlement.

In January, your NSMDLC brought in a new Executive. Let's get to know them. Meet our Treasurer, Jason Barker! Jason has been a member of OPSEU Local 330- The Support Staff of the Simcoe County District School Board, a Computer Technician by trade, since 2004. Elected as a Steward in 2010, Jason has been part of the local executive since that time. This past year he represented OPSEU's Education Workers as a Bargaining Representative with the government on third term as Treasurer on the NSMDLC, Jason is excited to build on the successes of past terms while working toward an increasing impact and awareness of issues for workings in Simcoe-Muskoka.
In January, your NSMDLC brought in a new Executive. Let's get to know them: Meet our President Mike De Rose! He has been teaching in Muskoka for over 10 years. He sits on his Local's Communications and Political Action Committees, and has training in Collective Bargaining, and Political Organizing. Mike also sits on the NSMDLC Political Action Committee. Mike is an advocate for worker's rights, and believes in community building and collaboration.
Today marks the start of Black History Month. What does that mean to you? To us it is a celebration of those in history and those who courageously take action everyday, against systemic racism and marginalization of workers of colour. #blackhistorymonth #bipoc #workersofcolour
Congratulations to our affiliates from Opseu Local 330 on reaching a tentative agreement! All meetings via zoom come with challenges, but particularly negotiations.
The NSMDLC thanks Gravenhurst Against Poverty for the great work they’re doing trying to fill the gaps that low wages, a lack of affordable housing, and underemployment cause.
We are so saddened by the loss of OPP Constable Marc Hovingh. Our thoughts are with his family, his community, and all of his brothers and sisters in the Ontario Provincial Police. https://www.cbc.ca//manitoulin-island-gore-bay-officer-kil
The choice that Loblaw made, to give more money to their shareholders rather than reinstate their ‘Hero Pay’ program to their frontline workers, doesn’t acknowledge the risk, sacrifice, and goodwill their frontline workers face. https://www.thestar.com//loblaw-raises-shareholders-divide
We are deeply saddened to learn of the death of an OSBCU - CSCSO #cupe education worker from Covid-19. Our thoughts are with her loved ones, friends and coworkers.
