No plan survives first contact with the enemy. Especially when the enemy is mother nature, and the plan does not anticipate a power outage. Thanks to all for bearing with us as we relocated and pulled together a backup solution.... A huge shout out to the women of Session 1/4 who endured a six hour delay, with special mention to Paulette Mullett, who had a 6.5 hour break between her snatches and clean & jerks, and still went 6/6! Despite all the problems, we saw plenty of great lifting, and any day where that happens is a good day. Full results are available on the NSWA web site. www.nsweightlifting.ca

Sport Split draws occur every month. November’s winner took home over $10,000. If each of our members entered monthly, the proceeds generated would be enough to fund our junior development program. So get your tickets on the NSWA website today, and tell a friend.

Due to the recent increase in cases of COVID-19 in the HRM and increasing exposures, the NSWA made the difficult decision this evening to cancel our Provincial Championships on Saturday. The NSWA values, above all else, its community of athletes and volunteers, all of whom work hard to make this sport a reality in our province, and we do not want to create any unnecessary risks to members of that community or their friends and relatives. The Board of the NSWA would like to sp...ecifically recognize all of the athletes who were excited to get back out on the platform after a long period of no competitions. We know and share your disappointment in this news. We will continue working to get you back on a platform as soon as conditions allow. We will be processing refunds for this cancellation next week. We appreciate you patience while we sort them out.

We have made important changes to our COVID-19 protocol. Spectators will no longer be permitted in the venue. We apologize for any inconvenience that this might cause. We are making every effort to keep athletes, coaches and volunteers safe. A reminder to those for whom this presents a problem, our refund policy permits refunds for COVID-related withdrawals.... The Start List is now available on the NSWA web site.

Weightlifting suffered a tremendous loss this week with the passing of Ian Meadows. For 50 years, Ian was the heart and soul of weightlifting in Nova Scotia. He was there when the NSWA was incorporated in the 60’s. In the 70’s he and George Allen worked tirelessly to build the sport across the province. In the 80’s and 90’s he ran the sport entirely by himself. And in the lean years that followed he single handedly kept it alive. And all through those decades he coached. Ian ...coached hundreds of athletes of every level from recreational to international. He would coach anyone who asked, and asked nothing in return. Ian was known from coast to coast, both for his colourful personality and his love of the sport. But for those of you who knew him only as the old-timer who came out to referee at competitions, it was Ian’s experience, expertise and dedication that laid the foundation upon which we currently stand. We would not be here without him, and he will be missed.
