Today employees spotlight is Jennifer Tetlichi, the Regional Manager of Continuing Care for Beaufort-Delta Region. Born and raised in Inuvik, NT, with family roots in Fort McPherson, NT, Jennifer has been working as a nurse in the NWT for 16 years in a variety of different positions. As an aboriginal nurse I have come and gone to a lot of different areas of nursing; I have experienced a lot. I love meeting new nurses that come to the communities and showing them what we have to offer. Some of these people are good friends that I keep in contact with to this day. I am passionate about nursing and especially northern nursing as the Delta is my home.

Virtual care has been a great way for me to connect with patients at high risk of infections because it allows me to speak to them in the comfort and safety of their own home. It has also been more convenient for many patients by eliminating the time they usually spend waiting in the office waiting room! Today is National Indigenous Peoples Day. We celebrate the unique heritage, traditions, and diverse cultures of the First Nations, Inuit, Inuvialuit and Metis Peoples of this land, today and every day. Over the next week we will be sharing a series of staff spotlights, recognizing Indigenous staff and highlighting services that make our system more welcoming for Indigenous patients and clients. The Stanton Territorial Hospital Indigenous Wellness Team pictured in this photo provides cultural supports to patients receiving care at the facility, offers interpreting services, runs a traditional foods program, and facilitates ongoing cultural programming such as sewing, baking bannock, visits to the Indigenous Wellness Camp and more for patients in our care. #NationalIndigenousPeoplesDay #NIPD2020
