[BLACK AND BLUE MATTERS: An interview with Quincy Armorer] On the occasion of Black Theatre Workshop's 50th anniversary, we spoke with Quincy Armorer, Associate... Artist of the English section and Artistic Director of Black Theatre Workshop. "'Black and Blue Matters' deconstructs the justice system, truth, white supremacy, and directly addresses anti-black racism. We’ve been developing it for a few years now and, quite unfortunately to be perfectly honest, the play seems to become more and more relevant from one day to the next. We need plays like this right now." Read the full interview here: https://ent-nts.ca//black-and-blue-matters-an-interview-wi This interview took place days before what should have been the premiere of "Black and Blue Matters", a play addressing the important topic of systemic racism, which was postponed, due to the new health and safety guidelines by the Quebec government to stop the spread of the pandemic.

With great regret, we must share a loss to our drama community: Donna McEachern, our vibrant educator, mentor and mother of the Sears Festival passed away on September 1, 2020. Donna’s impact on the Ontario student drama community over the last 20 years is immeasurable but most evidenced in the impact she has had on her students’ lives. The drama teacher at Cayuga Secondary School from 1991 until her retirement in 2017, she committed herself to the well-being of her student...s. Donna has been an unwavering supporter of student drama, starting with her first show she entered to the previously known Sears Drama Festival in 1998. Over the years, Donna enthusiastically embraced the festival as an opportunity for all students to experience drama. Donna loved the Festival, hosting District, Regional, and Provincial competitions ten times over her career, first hosting in 2003 after first entering competitions in 1998. Even after retirement, she continued to support Cayuga’s efforts, even assisting in Cayuga’s most recent District hosting this past Spring. She was especially proud of her team’s efforts in hosting the 2010 Provincials at Brantford’s Sanderson Centre. Her focus was always ensuring and encouraging a wide variety of students, especially those who felt limited connections to the school community and other extra-curriculars, to embrace drama as a way to extend their sense of self and their sense of collective humanity. Her drama room was not just a classroom it was a home to those who needed an empathetic ear, a shoulder to cry on, tutoring in other courses, advice about future careers, prom date choices, a lunch, or just a coffee so much coffee. She convinced struggling students to take a risk, not just through theatre but in all aspects of the student experience and changed lives. Her drama family will deeply miss Donna, Rebecca Hoecht Jonathan Mann Cayuga Secondary School

I think my love of theatre and being in the theatre community started in high school... the drama programs at high school were great because we were all part of the Sears Drama Festival. Kids from all over bonded in the summers doing TOROS and it became not just a fun thing to do but a great way to meet friends and form a community.
