Castoreum is a thick, odorous secretion, used in some artificial vanilla flavouring. It also happens to come from the anal gland of a beaver. Yep, you read that right. Fortunately, German chemists discovered that vanilin (one of the chemicals responsible for the taste of vanilla) could be extracted from the humble conifer. Today, synthetic vanillin accounts for about 94% of all vanilla flavouring used in the food industry, with natural vanilla extract accounting for most of the remaining 6%. If you pick up a dairy product or dessert that doesn't have the real thing, maybe consider putting it down. #TheNudeTruth
Giving sweet potato it's moment to shine . Instead of resolutions this month, let’s commit to healthy habits, like eating real food!
What are nitrates and why should you avoid them? Nitrates are a preservative that are not broken down by stomach acid. Instead, your gut biome can break down nitrate intonitrite, which can cause health complications such as an increased risk of cancer. Some food with added nitrates include ham, deli meat, hot dogs and bacon. We never will have any preservatives, ever.
Full flavour, coming at ya We don't mean to brag, but our Everything bagel blend is delicious on just about, well, everything.
