Happy Friday friends! A sole proprietor or a sole trader will likely draw funds from the business account for personal use in lieu of a salary. If doing so, it's important the business owner recognizes which expenses can be claimed against the profit of the business to reduce the tax, and which can not. Expenses that are directly related to the operation of the business, and towards producing income, are usually tax deductible. Expenses that are for the personal pleasure of... the owner, are not. As well, mixing personal and business in one expense, such as taking a client out for lunch, or buying them gifts, does not mean a full claim for the business can be made. When using personal funds to complete a business purchase, the expense needs to be brought into the bookkeeping system through a journal entry so all expenses can be claimed.
