John Lombardi June 27, 1950 February 26, 2021 John passed away suddenly in a tragic accident on 26 Feb 2021. He is survived by his wife Joan of 45 years, sons Michael (Katie) and Brian (Jenelle). Papa to Jordyn, Teryn, Bradyn, Wyatt, Riley, Gavyn and Presley. Also brothers Dominic (Josie)and Mike and many nephews and nieces. Born in Castelmezzano, Italy in 1950, moving to Canada and eventually ending up in Vancouver where he grew up and developed his love of engines and ...acquiring his heavy duty mechanic certificate. He then moved north and ended up in Houston, B.C. in 1973. He worked for many years fixing machinery but in 1996 the family opened a car wash, rental and auto repair shop until 2012. Then in 2019 decided it was time to move to Oliver so he could grow his own grapes John had a passion for building hot rods, restoring older vehicles and organizing the Houston Drag Races. He loved helping his granddaughter and long time friend Monty to race dragsters. He also loved collecting auto memorabilia from the 50’s through the 80’s, and making and drinking grape wine especially with family and friends. John was very handy and could fix almost anything. When he wasn’t busy at home, he enjoyed being at the cabin on Babine Lake. John took great pleasure in riding motorcycles anywhere and everywhere. He had many great adventures riding through the USA with his friends. In October of 2012 he started his experience of a lifetime and drove his 1982 Honda 450 from Houston, B.C. to the southern tip of South America and back, returning in April 2013. In 2014 John was diagnosed with colorectal cancer. It was a 2 year long battle but he beat it. Not one to stay idle he returned to the work force. He will be greatly missed but he will forever be in our minds and hearts. Lyndon Jay Johnston June 23, 1964 January 6, 2021 On Wednesday January 6, 2021, Lyndon Jay Johnston passed away in West Kelowna, BC.... He was born on June 23, 1964 in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan. Lyndon was predeceased by his Father William Johnston. Left to mourn his passing: Daughter Crystal (Steve), Grandson James, Daughter Jayanna, Mother Carole Johnston, Brother Derrick (Janelle), Aunts Danna Pedersen, Susan Pedersen, Marilyne Sayler (Ben), Gaylene Detta, cousins, nieces, and nephews. Lyndon had many different jobs such as building manager, warehouse worker, DJ, radio announcer, and pharmacy technician. He enjoyed many sports including hockey, baseball, football, golf, and basketball. He enjoyed spending time with his daughters and grandson. Lyndon loved to make people laugh, he was taken from us far too soon. He will be greatly missed. A private family service will be held at the Oliver Alliance Church. Jasper Brian F. Braga 1998 2021 On January 2, 2021 Jasper Brian passed away unexpectedly from a tragic accident. He died peacefully at the South Okanagan General Hospital surrounded by the family. His memories will be fondly remembered by his loving father Jasper Ordillo Braga and his mother Esmeralda Fabro Braga. His supportive relatives Auntie Perla Cabanada and Apong Benigno Cabanada, Florenda (Tita) F. Fuertes, (Apong) Remy Cabanada Nieves Windley and uncle Greg Smith ...in Canada. The bereaved families in the Philippines are Eleazar Fuertes, Mr. and Mrs. Nestor Fabro, Mr. and Mrs. Sherwin Ramirez, Mr. and Mrs. Willie Fabro, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Julaton, Mr. and Mrs. Ronel Dungo, Jovelyn Braga, Rodalyn Ordinario, Mr. and Mrs. Roger Ramirez. Grandfather Arnel Mendoza, Grandmother Yolanda Mendoza and Leonora Ramirez. He will be greatly missed by his cousins Pearl and Philippe Cabanada, Nathaniel, Gerald, Grace Fabro, Bernard Fabro, Noreen Facun, Ar-mayne Obedoza, Erwin and Eric Ramirez, Ethan Fuertes, Raven Julaton, Jiah and ZJuly Braga, Jela Ordinario and Ivan Ramirez. He is predeceased by his grandfather Willie Fabro Sr., Emerito Braga, uncle Louie Fabro, Rommel Braga, When he was 4 years old, he participated in the Mr. Pogi (Mr. Handsome) contest and was awarded Mr. Avon. He consistently received Honor Awards in Elementary and High School. Jasper represented his school numerous times in regional and provincial science fairs. After graduation he enrolled at St. John Polytechnic University and registered in Mechanical Engineering and finished 2 years but stopped while preparing his papers for Canada to join his mom. During his free time, he used to motorbike in the country side and all over the province. He loved nature and visiting his family often. He also volunteered a lot with the Red Cross in Manila. Upon arrival in Canada, he enjoyed working at A&W as a cook for 3 years. He also worked part time at Buy Low one summer and one summer at the Marina in Osoyoos. In his free time, he enjoyed hiking and had a fashion for cars and could easily identify them. Jasper had a holiday visiting his relatives in the Philippines once and had a wonderful time bonding with family. Never expected that will be his last visit. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, viewing is limited by government regulations. Your understanding and your prayers for the family is very much appreciated. Norman Emil Joseph Grimard December 15, 1962 December 11, 2020 On Friday, December 11, 2020, Mr. Norman Emil Joseph Grimard of Oliver passed away peacefully at Mariposa Gardens in Osoyoos at the age of 57 years. He is now reunited with his parents Oscar and Lucy and his brother George.... Norm will be lovingly remembered by his wife Darlene; sister Diane (Ron) Blake; brother David Grimard; step-daughters Nadine (Shawn) and Liane (Brandon). The people at the trailer park and at the campsite are what made him love his job there. Some of his favourite pastimes were driving in the mountains, three wheeling, camping, fishing and spending time with family and friends. A private family gathering will be held at a later date. In Loving Memory Of Ruth-Ann Neil 1957 - 2020 Ruth-Ann Neil passed away peacefully following her 63rd birthday after many health struggles over the last few years. ... Ruth-Ann is predeceased by her son, Isaac Reiter, and her father and mother John and Laura Harvey. Ruth-Ann is survived by her husband Dan Neil; daughters Tamara Palmer (Nick), Lara Noble (Jared), and Samantha Reiter; her grandchildren Lillian Palmer and Atlas and Isla Noble, and her siblings Sheila Piper, Deborah Morrison, Richard Harvey, Peggy Beach, and Dyrk Harvey. Ruth-Ann worked as an electric power shovel operator at Gibraltar Mines in McLeese Lake, BC, and was proud to be the first female operator of this kind in the province. Ruth-Ann had a long-standing love for literature and poetry and a passion for writing that spanned her lifetime. Her poems were published many times and she remained an active member of the writing community in BC. Ruth-Ann loved her children deeply and spent many happy years at home caring for them while they were young. Ruth-Ann formed many beautiful friendships over the years, and she will be incredibly missed by those who cared for her. Ruth-Ann loved her husband Dan, and they spent their marriage happily exploring coffee shops, wineries, and the beautiful landscape of the Okanagan together. Shirley Jean Murray May 26, 1932 September 14, 2020 It is with deep sadness that the family of Shirley Jean Murray announces that she lost her battle with cancer on September 14. Shirley passed away peacefully at home in Oliver at the age of 88 surrounded by the love of those closest to her. She was born in Kelowna May 1932 and predeceased by her parents, Roy and Catherine Pollard (Kelowna), sister Dinny O’Connell (North Vancouver), brother Jim Pollard (Kelowna). ... She is survived by her loving husband, Neil of 57 years, daughter Sheilagh (Barney), North Vancouver, son Chris (Kristina), Oliver; very special grandchildren, Caragh and Maya Lang and Megan and Trent Murray along with sister, Karen Smith (Castlegar). Shirley will also be fondly remembered by numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Shirley graduated from Kelowna High School in 1950 and continued her studies at UBC, School of Business. Upon graduation, she was employed with a firm of chartered accountants in Vancouver until she married Neil. After some time in Kelowna and Penticton, they settled in Oliver in 1971. Shirley’s passions included family, community, gardening, traveling in their RV and her love of reading (3 major newspapers daily and multiple books a week). Shirley was always highly involved in her community. During her children’s formative years, she took an active role in their extra-curricular activities at the arena, on the playing field, in the gym and on the ski hill. Her community involvements included her role as an active member of the Hospital Auxiliary Board for over 50 years, 12 years as Campaign Manager for the Oliver Cancer Society, founding member and President for the Oliver Soroptimists, committee member for the B.C. Winter Games (1985) and the Oliver Senior Games, active engagement with the Mt. Baldy Association, spent 4.5 years on the Oliver District Parks and Recreation Commission and was instrumental in forming the Community Foundation for Oliver in her role as Director. As such, it came as no surprise when she received the Oliver Good Citizen Award in 1992 along with other community recognitions. Shirley exemplified strength and resilience to the end, demonstrating true dignity throughout her fight with cancer. We would like to thank her for sharing her life with us and instilling her values of compassion, humility and gratitude. She will always be remembered for the beautiful soul that she is, touching everyone around her. Obituary for the late Owen (Tracy) Mandau August 26, 1955 July 18, 2020 On Saturday, July 18, 2020, Mr. Owen (Tracy) Mandau of Oliver passed away suddenly at his home at the age of 64 years. He was predeceased by his father Bill Mandau.... Tracy will be fondly remembered by his loving family including wife Melodee of 42 years; son Ryan (Trish) and grandson Cohen; daughter Hayley (Bryden) and grandson Dominic; mother Mona Mandau of Penticton; brother Warren (Barb) of Peachland; sisters Roxanne (Ron) Fitzpatrick of Penticton and Hillary (Bob) Dacosta of Penticton; brother-in-law Kim Jorde of Osoyoos; brother-in-law Greg Jorde of Williams Lake; sister-in-law Carol (Chester) Toth of Kamloops; many nieces, nephews and extended family; Gary Venables, best friend since childhood and Gunner, who faithfully was always at Tracy’s feet. Tracy was born at St. Martin’s Hospital in Oliver on August 26, 1955 and grew up on McCuddy Street. Lots of memories of his childhood always came up and he loved talking about the good times. He worked for V-Line Construction for several years before starting and becoming owner/operator of White Lake Backhoe Services. Tracy enjoyed travelling which included trips to Cuba, Las Vegas and the Dominican Republic but his favourite was the 5th wheel on Mirror Lake where his boat was steps away, moored on Kootenay Lake. He spent at least a week from May to October every month. Over the years, Tracy played hockey and slo-pitch as well as volunteered his time on the board of directors for the Sportsmen’s Association and the Oliver Branch of Ducks Unlimited. He enjoyed spending time at his hunting camp in the Christian Valley, fishing on Kootenay Lake, being on his boat, riding his motorcycle on the backroads, visiting with friends and quadding which included many trips with groups of friends all over the Okanagan and Kootenays. In loving memory of Edwin Lawrence Huffman May 26, 1959 - July 12, 2020 ... On July 12, 2020 Ed passed away at the South Okanagan General Hospital, after a brave fight against pancreatic cancer. He was surrounded by his family. Ed was predeceased by his father, William Huffman, and step-father Tom Woolridge. He will be fondly remembered by his mother; Sonia Shaw, his loving wife; Vickie-Lynne, three children; Daiya (Blake), Phia (Mike), and Jacob, grandchildren; Jordan, Jaxon and Octavia, along with his siblings; Ken, Linda and Glen, and many other nieces and nephews. Ed was a loving husband, dedicated father, passionate Grandpa, devoted son, and loyal brother. He lived in Oliver for over 40 years, working in various roles within the fruit industry and as a paramedic for 15 years. He particularly loved to spend time with his grandkids, travel with Vickie, golf, ride his motorbike, and drive his backhoe. His quick wit, and strong presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A private service is being held by his family. A larger celebration of life will be held at a later date. Obituary for Robert Stelkia On Saturday, July 11th, 2020 Robert Stelkia of Oliver and the Osoyoos Indian Band passed away suddenly and peacefully at his home and ranch on McKinney Road at age 56. Robert was a loving father, dedicated grandpa, devoted son, loyal brother and wonderful friend who will be dearly missed by many. Robert was predeceased by his father Harvey Robert Ross and sister Carol-Mae Ross. ... He will be fondly remembered by his loving family including his mother Jane Stelkia; daughters Silvia, Jessica, and Jaclyn Stelkia and their mother Silvia Budavari; grandchildren Stella and Mason Fogg, and Decker Land; brothers Bill Ross and Aaron Stelkia; sisters Marie, Sheri, and Dora Stelkia, as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family. Robert was born in Penticton BC on November 9th, 1963 and grew up in OK Falls and Oliver. In his younger years Rob loved to rodeo, he was a tough bull rider and also rode saddlebronc. He was a gentle and kind cowboy who ran Wolf Creek Trail rides for 28 years. He was most recently employed by the Okanagan Correctional Centre where he passionately ran the horse program. Rob wore many hats throughout the years not only as a rancher but also working for Fortis B.C., building pipelines, owning and operating a small trucking company, working security for movie sets and for the Osoyoos Indian Band, among many other things. He will be remembered by the community for always driving around in his big red trucks with his dog by his side and enjoying a meal from Crucetti's. He enjoyed spending time with his mother and children, teaching his grandchildren to ride, and talking to them about horses and the land. He loved to ride his horses but also more recently loved riding his motorcycle. Rob enjoyed seeing the world and the land he grew up on. He made trips overseas to Germany, enjoyed exploring the Okanagan/Okanogan territory, and most recently the Wounded Knee Memorial Motorcycle ride to South Dakota. He was a man of vast knowledge and few words, of passion and love. His strong and calm presence will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A celebration of life was held to honour his memory Saturday July, 18th, 2020 starting with a large procession from Okanagan Correctional Centre to his final resting place, his ranch and home.
