More words for my littles!
Here is the new guideline. Our screening will be updated for Monday (I just need to find time to redo it!! )
Today we wore orange shirts in remembrance of those who attended residential schools and those who did not come home. We read a beautiful story called When we were alone , illustrated by the fabulous Julie Flett, which very gently introduces the history to young children. The kids reflected while we we explored the book that they wouldn’t like to be made to wear all the same clothes, not speak their language, be forced to cut their hair if they don’t want to, nor be separated from their families. If children can see and express the injustice, so should we all.
Everyone getting into the spirit of Orange shirt day!
Algonquin Language Lesson #12: My Family
Today the kids discovered they could walk in between the linden suckers and the trunk. This allows them a closeness to the tree that isn’t usually possible. They are really enjoying the activity of making their tunnel- in bare feet. True nature play
This is the school screening for symptoms, it is pretty much the same process for childcare. Follow the flowchart, if it says should not attend school then the child should not attend childcare. When in doubt you should contact a health care provider.
That thing that’s all anyone talks about? Yeah, it’s had a bit of an effect on child care. Documentation was a problem; the health unit wanted no paper documentation that the kids might touch, but the purpose of documentation is to show children their play and develop the program by following interests. We have put together binders featuring laminated learning stories for each child. All sanitizable and accessible. Not exactly hygge but it does the job in a tricky situation!
For those kinetic learners try dominoes: the real heavy old fashioned white ones. The sound of their click, the smooth white surface, the texture of their dots and their wonderful tendency to topple are very satisfying for kids seeking movement input.
