Beef is Beef, right? Wrong! We asked Darryl Fletcher from Chef Dtv, to compare store bought extra lean ground beef against extra lean grass-fed ground beef from Nutrafarms. There were a few remarkable differences. Colour - the store bought beef has a much lighter colour than the grass-fed beef. Grass-fed beef gets it deep red colour from the nutrients in the animal's diet. You will see similar colouring in other animals that eat pastured diets like most game meats.... Moisture Content - because our beef is dry aged it retains almost all of its pre-cooking weight! In comparison, most of the beef you find in the grocery store is not aged AND often has water weight added during the chilling process. Most people will notice a huge difference in the taste, texture, and smell of our grass-fed beef when compared to the products they usually buy from the grocery store. This week we were absolutely blown away by our visit to Noble's cattle farm. They explained the traditional farming methods they use, why a stress-free animal is generally an extremely healthy animal and they showed us just how much space their cattle had to roam. Next, they took us on a hayride that lasted over an hour and we didn't even see a third of the property. To top it all off, Darryl Fletcher aka ChefD was hard at work back at the farmhouse cooking up a storm wa...iting for the tour to return. To say it was informative is an understatement. Thanks to everyone that participated. We know this tour of the farm showed each and every participant just how special the products that Nutrafarms provides really are!
