Happy Sikh Heritage Month! I can’t believe it’s been a year since I launched this page! Thank you everyone for all of your support and positivity throughout- it’s been such a fun and rewarding experience! To celebrate one year of @nutrikaur, I thought I would share one of my classic cookie recipes- the Cha-Spiced Cookie! I have made this recipe for years and it’s always a big hit! This recipe also represents one of my main goals for this page: to normalize and highligh...t Punjabi culture in food and nutrition. Cha is such a staple in Punjabi culture and whenever I would reveal the flavour of this cookie, I would be met with excitement, from both older and younger generations of cookie lovers I hope you all enjoy it as well! Ingredients 2 3/4 cups all purpose flour 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp baking powder 1/2 tsp salt 2 3/4 tsp ground cinnamon 1 tsp ground ginger 1/4 tsp nutmeg 1 tsp ground cardamom 1/2 tsp cloves 1/4 tsp ground black pepper 1 1/2 cups sugar 1 cup unsalted butter, softened 1/4 cup unsweetened applesauce 1 tsp vanilla extract Steps Preheat oven to 350F In a bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and spices Using a mixer, beat the butter and sugar until smooth Add in the applesauce and vanilla and beat until incorporated Add in the dry ingredients and mix until the dough is formed Using a scoop of desired size, roll the dough into balls, flattening the top slightly Place the dough balls on a cookie sheet lined with parchment or a silicone mat Bake the cookies for ~15-17 minutes or until the desired texture is reached (the cookies harden as they cool) Enjoy with a nice cup of cha!
