Many people mow without ever thinking about the health of their lawn. It's just a job to tick off the list, right? Wrong! You can greatly impact the health of your lawn by mowing correctly. Let Nutri-Lawn show you how with our latest blog!
#TipTuesday // Make weeding a whole lot easier this season by watering first or waiting for the rain. Moist soil will make pesky weeds a breeze to pull out! Find out what the most common weeds in Canada are, and how to combat them: https://hubs.li/H0N3npm0
Proper cutting techniques are essential to an Ecology Friendly Lawn. There are few pointers below that will help you manage your lawn like an expert. Mow frequently (every 4 to 7 days). Spring requires more frequent cutting because a large percentage of total growth occurs in May and June. Never remove more than 1/3 of the leaf blade; otherwise, stress will result in browning.... Cut at a height of 2.5 to 3 inches (6 to 7 cm). Mowing at these heights allows your lawn to shade out newly germinated weed seeds, and forces weeds like dandelions and plantain to grow more upright, resulting in more removal of weed leaf area when the lawn is mowed. Turf grass root depth is also deeper in lawns that are mowed high. Sharpen the mower blade regularly to avoid fuzzy mowing. A dull blade creates a ragged cut that causes the lawn to look brown. Mulch clippings back into the lawn. Clippings do not contribute to thatch accumulation when the lawn is mowed regularly.
Wishing all the amazing moms a safe and relaxing Mother's Day!

There's more to your lawn than meets the eye! At 8 or 10 individual grass plants per square inch, your lawn contains of millions of little dust traps. As air circulates outside, turf grass traps and removes much of the dust and dirt circulating around your home. #FridayFact

#TipTuesday // Cleaning up unused tools, toys, buckets and furniture is one of the easiest ways to take care of your yard in the winter. By placing these items in a dry storage area and away from winter's chill, you're helping them last longer and keeping your lawn decluttered so it can breathe. Amen to that! Embracing our Canadian winters makes the summer months that much sweeter.
#TipTuesday // During the winter, it's important to store your lawn care products in a dry, warm, and moisture-free area, preferably located somewhere indoors. Products that are left outside have the potential to freeze and expire, which could make them unusable come springtime. It's also a good idea to place bags of grass seed and fertilizer from your shed in secure rubber-made containers, so that mice and other animals don't get into them. Part 2 of our DIY series features more important lawn care tasks for late-fall and early-winter!
#TipTuesday // When you have done the last mow (in mid to late November unless you live on the West Coast) you will likely be happy to put your lawn mower away for the winter. But before you store it, a little service now can save you from much aggravation next spring. We recommend you follow these service steps for gas mowers, and please remember to disconnect the ignition wire from the spark plug before starting any maintenance, to avoid injury. - Clean or replace spark plu...g. Remove the spark plug and check the electrode for corrosion and dirt. Clean, or replace with a new plug. - Check the oil. It’s a good idea to change the oil now, and again after every 25-hours of running time. - Clean or replace the air filter. Unscrew the bolt that holds the air cleaner. Replace with a new one. Foam filters that are not too dirty can be rinsed clean in warm water and reinstalled when dry. Want to learn even more? Check in next Tuesday as we finish off our Fall Lawn Mower Maintenance tips!
