Just like the earth’s ecosystem, think of your gut in the same way. They both involve a delicate balance of microorganisms to thrive. Your gut microbiome is a community of about 100 trillion microorganisms living in the environment of the human gut. Maintaining a stable and diverse balance of these bacteria is key for maintaining optimal health. They collaborate and play an essential role in helping with digestion, boosting the immune system, preventing infections and even ...influencing mood and behaviour. Including fermented foods in your diet helps stabilize this good and bad bacteria another great option is incorporating Probiotics in your diet. That being said, not all probiotics are created equal, so make sure you consider a few things for your probiotic purchase. 1) Potency. Go for one with at least 1 billion CFUs (colony forming units). This determines how many microorganisms are in the supplement. You may want to start lower and increase to avoid stomach upset. 2) Diversity. Your gut contains many different strains of bacteria, so you want one with many various strains to support that. 3) Quality. Watch out for crap in your supplements. Avoid any binders and fillers and unnecessary ingredients. I’m taking a great one right now called ProBio Supreme by @healthfirstnetwork . These ones are awesome because they contain an impressive 55 billion live CFUs and 14 different strains including L. Plantarum which has been studied to show positive effects against gas, bloating and IBS.
