This account has been muted the last week in order to leave space for the voices that need to be heard right now. Myself, and many others took this time to educate ourselves, advocate for the BIPOC community, and most importantly: to listen and self reflect. Self reflection was a skill I refined during my school days, and I did it regularly. Since then, I haven't practiced this skill as much as I should have until the last week. I have to admit, that I have...n't ever taken enough time to reflect on my own voice and ways that I could be using it to protest injustice. I am committed to do better. Self reflection is so important. It's important to self reflect in order to understand where we can make changes in ourselves around stigmas and certain beliefs we may hold about others, in order to be a better advocate for marginalized individuals. Taking an online test can be a great first step in self-reflecting on your own hidden or implicit bias regarding marginalized groups. I have provided a link where you can take these tests by Project Implicit below: https://implicit.harvard.edu/implicit/aboutus.html It is also important to self reflect in order to recognize the beliefs that we may also hold about our food and our own food experiences. Taking the time to reflect about why you may consider or think of a food as better (good) or inferior (bad) is a great stepping stone to changing your relationship with food to be a positive one. If you are interested in looking at food in a non-diet and non-restrictive way, or sharing your lived experience with me, send me a message. During the last week, I hope many of you were able to learn something, hear something and reflect in some way. This week, lets continue to self reflect and grow in kindness and advocacy. #nutrition #dietitian #nondiet #nondietapproach #nondietdietitian #selflove #healthateverysize #mindfuleating #mindfulness #intuitive-eating #spreadkindness #selfreflect #dothework See more

International Non-Diet Day: an annual celebration of body acceptance, including body shape diversity and fat acceptance. How appropriate for a non-diet Dietitian, like me, to share. But from a nutrition perspective, what does this mean? It means that we don’t have to talk about diets or weight loss, and recognize that these don’t equate to health. ... It means that we don’t have to deprive our bodies of foods that we enjoy. It means that we don’t have to demonize certain foods or ways of eating. It means that we can fuel our body without guilt, shame or judgement. It means that we can be accepting of changes that our body may experience throughout our lifetime. It means that we can move our body in ways that we enjoy and that keep our hearts full, rather than with intentions to change how our body looks. It means that together we can celebrate a shift in our thinking away from diets and diet culture, and towards enjoying and making peace with our food. Who’s with me? How will you celebrate? #nutrition #dietitian #nondiet #nondietapproach #nondietdietitian #selflove #healthateverysize #mindfuleating #mindfulness #intuitiveeating #reddeer #centralalberta #dancers #dancernutrition #aerialists #movement See more
