No matter how much you prepare, distress situations can still occur out in the North Shore Mountains. The ability to signal for help increases your chance of a successful outcome. BC AdventureSmart has put together an informative guide outlining all the different ways that you can call for help if you need it: http://ow.ly/Da1o50EN5l6
Joint Statement from the Lower Mainland Police Chiefs & Commanders regarding the recent gang violence in the Lower Mainland. Please see the statement below for more information or go to: https://bit.ly/3bt5DlT
This year, #NationalPoliceWeek celebrates community partnerships. We couldn't think of a better venue for this shot with West Vancouver Police & North Shore Rescue to celebrate our great working relationship. Thanks to Capilano Suspension Bridge Park and beautiful British Columbia for the incredible scenery!
Good morning North Vancouver! We're gearing up for another day of keeping you safe with a little coffee run in Edgemont Village. Be sure to check out today's North Shore News for a special National Police Week message from West Vancouver Police, North Shore Rescue and us!
West Vancouver Police Cst. Goodmurphy was off duty walking his dog at 5am in North Van when he called 911 to report a suspicious couple pulling a red wagon full of property. Nice job helping catch a couple of suspected burglars! (We hope Abbey's not shaken up) https://bit.ly/3pUqrse
Join panelists for a special conversation on #MENtality. They will share their personal stories, and Supt. Bhayani will discuss work-life balance, mental health resiliency, planning for an organization, and health discussions for Sr. executives.
Good morning North Van! We'd like to introduce you to Officer Kruz. He's a member of the RCMP Integrated Police Dog Services (our four-footed partners in crime prevention) and an all-around good boy! Learn more about the unit and their training protocols: https://bit.ly/39aUYMz
"A fail in two cities" After receiving a prohibition for failing a roadside breath test last night, a North Van driver admitted to spending the evening drinking at a friend's house in another city, contrary to PHO orders. Folks, please don't do this! Details: https://bit.ly/36RqWuc
Both Supt. Bhayani and his kids got an early start to Halloween! The kids carved these delightfully ghoulish pumpkins and Supt. Bhayani got a head's start on the treating (tricks to follow?). Look out tomorrow for a very special Halloween-related announcement from the North Vancouver detachment!
Is this your bike? We recovered it in North Van, but we can't find its owner. If it's yours or belongs to someone you know, please get in touch with us.
On November 11th, we normally gather together at various memorials and cenotaph sites to honour our veterans and pay tribute to the fallen. This year, we found new ways to salute our veterans. On Wednesday afternoon, Sgt. Mainwaring, Cst. Kennedy, and a bagpipe player went up to the Lynn Valley Care Center to salute our seniors from outside the building. Today, they are speaking with veterans at Evergreen House and Cedar Lodge. It's an absolute honour to hear their stories - we'll be visiting in person as soon as we can! We thank all of our veterans for your service and we promise to never forget.
May this Diwali bring with it fresh hopes, brighter days, and new dreams! Wishing you and your loved ones a very happy festival of lights!
Since 2012, the Adrian Oliver Memorial Run has raised over $230K to benefit Honour House Society, a critical home-away-from-home for first responders and their families. This year, more than 10 members of the North Vancouver RCMP virtually participated with the goal of raising funds and awareness for the growing need to support the personal sacrifices that emergency personnel make in their daily service to Canadians. Great work team!
The other day, one of our traffic officers noticed something looked a bit "off" about a car's front license plate. Turned out the officer had good reasons for suspicion: the "plate" was actually a photocopy, taped to the bumper, in an effort to "improve the vehicle's performance". It seems the driver didn't consider abiding by traffic laws to be a sign of good performance. No front plate = $109 ticket.
Had your flu shot yet? Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization recommends it (unless you're allergic to eggs or under 6 mo.) Many at the Detachment had it today; doing what we can to stay healthy so we can continue keeping you safe, North Van. (It didn't hurt a bit!)
It's #BikeToWorkWeek, and even though we're disappointed our pilot project "IFELL" unit (https://youtu.be/DboRhBYVB8U) didn't get off the ground, we're still going to get out and encourage people to ride to school and work. Burn calories instead of hydrocarbons! Release: https://bit.ly/33dWoCn
We found another #bike. It's a custom built white road bike and it was found in the 700 block of West 16th Street, #NorthVan. It has no brand markings, but someone knows this bike! Can you help? Call us if you can.
Hey North Van! We found a bike! Is it yours? It's a Giant Talon mountain bike. Please share so we can identify the owner!
We are committed to providing a safe and respectful work environment, where differences are respected and conflicts are addressed collaboratively. Today is International Conflict Resolution Day. Did you know that the RCMP has an Informal Conflict Management Program (ICMP)? ICMP seeks to promote and sustain a healthy work environment that encourages team building, open communication and mutual respect for all RCMP employees.
G’mar chatima tovah. Wishing all those observing Yom Kippur a good and blessed year!
From a follower recently (this made our day ): "My youngest accidentally called emergency services from her dad's watch, but a friendly encounter is what my kids will always remember! Thankful for friendly officers in our neighbourhood! Thanks for all you do!" Our pleasure!
Remember the person who lost the ski bindings? Well, great news - you shared the story and he saw it! We handed them back just a few minutes ago. Thank you, thank you, thank you to all our social media followers! https://bit.ly/3j5a2gK
Last night someone followed a man after watching him cut a bike lock, steal the bike, then ride a bus to Lower Lonsdale. They lost sight of him, but officers at the Quay found him, arrested him and seized the bike. Finding the owner took a lot of door knocking, but they did it!
Last night, a couple called to report that their garage had been broken into and two bikes (an e-bike and a road bike) were missing. When they reported the theft, they were only expecting to get a file number to use for insurance purposes. Instead, our officers got to work and within a couple of hours, we located their bikes in a stolen car in Vancouver. Today, they will be dropping by the detachment to pick up their bikes! Great work by our officers we love a happy ending!
On behalf of all of us at the North Vancouver RCMP detachment, we send our deepest condolences to the officer's family and to our extended Police Family at the Abbotsford Police Department during this difficult and heartbreaking time.
We're pretty sure someone's day on the slopes will go a whole lot better if they have their bindings. The owner left them in a box on the roof of their car and forgot about them. We all have our moments. Let's try to get them back to the owner! https://bit.ly/2HqGSdT
Yesterday marked the conclusion of the Hope in the Darkness Walk for Youth Mental Health. Supt. Bhayani (and his young son!) as well as members of our Integrated First Nations Unit (IFNU) helped welcome walker Kevin Redsky to the North Shore. Kevin spent the last 90 days walking across Western Canada. Intended to be a call to action, Hope in the Darkness provides an opportunity for communities to join together for the wellbeing, strong identities and healthy lives of young people. With support from across the country, Hope in the Darkness works with schools, youth groups, Indigenous communities, mental health services and families. Learn more about Kevin's journey: https://bit.ly/3lNwcVt
What started out as a birthday celebration ended with an impaired driving investigation, fine, and vehicle impoundment for one #NorthVan driver last night on #Lonsdale. Folks, if you plan to drink, then PLAN NOT TO DRIVE. https://bit.ly/3j3A0Ry
Good morning! On October 11, around 7:30 p.m., we found a bike in the 300 block of East 16th St., #NorthVan (near 16th & St. Andrews). It's a black and orange Norco Storm. Is it yours? Do you know whose it might be? If so, please get in touch! 604-985-1311.
Good morning! Have you tried our #NorthVan RCMP Online Reporting tool? If you need to report a crime, it will save you time and make it easier to report crimes like car break-in's, minor property damage reports, and others. Check it out here: https://bit.ly/3mOUQ9w
Cancer doesn't take a break and neither does the amazing Tour de Coast team! This morning, they began their virtual Tour & will be riding 100km per day from Sept 21-25 to help support families & children affected by cancer in BC. We're honoured to welcome them to the North Vancouver detachment!
Thanks to an ace high school principal, we were able to return a stolen set of expensive golf clubs. He spotted the set of Callaway clubs with an eagle eye. They were wedged under a school bus... We're bringing this story to the fore. Oh there's more... https://bit.ly/3i0PfcY
Last night we received a report of someone trying door handles down by the auto mall in North Van... It sure makes for an easy arrest when you arrive to find the thief, screwdriver in hand, actually inside someone else's car. (PS: it makes the paperwork easier too!)
Is this your bike? We'd like to find its rightful owner, but we're having a hard time. We're hoping you can help. https://bit.ly/2RLoVbX
Believe us... When you have an RCMP red serge, you LOOK for an excuse to wear it! North Van’s Cpl. Arreaga found a good reason today. We can’t imagine a better way to wish your 101-yr-old grandma a happy birthday than to put on your high-browns and Stetson and fire up an intercontinental video chat to Guatemala! Happy Thanksgiving, grandma Arreaga, and Happy Thanksgiving to all of you!
And just like that, I’ve handed the Twitter keys back over to the North Van RCMP media team! Thank you to the North Vancouver RCMP & RCMP Police for your hospitality. And thanks to our followers for joining us: we hope you found today engaging, informative & fun! Until next time!... - @rylan_simpson
Happy Thanksgiving from our family to you and yours! 2020 has been a year unlike any other in recent memory but we are incredibly grateful to be a part of the amazing North Vancouver community. What are you thankful for this year?
Officers can manipulate their uniforms by adding/removing accoutrements, including vests (internal/external), gloves & headwear. These accoutrements exhibit functional purposes & perceptual implications. What do YOU think? Learn more: https://bit.ly/2RITHSA
This cabinet in the North Vancouver RCMP detachment highlights some of the history of the RCMP police uniform. And, as research suggests, police uniforms are important symbols of legitimacy as well as group identification. Learn more: https://t.co/j9ACcuA3PF & https://t.co/FpZZL15oBl.
We responded to a report of a hit and run traffic collision. The caller reported that a vehicle struck the meridian and then drove off... leaving its fender behind. We made patrols and tried to contact the driver. We soon found the car and driver suffering from minor injuries, and the vehicle also leaking fluids. A multi-agency response was required for this event, including BC Emergency Health Services and North Vancouver City Fire Department. Conclusion: The driver was examined and cleared by paramedics. Our investigation continues to determine the extent, if any, of alcohol or drug impairment.
Effective policing requires teamwork. And a huge part of that team are the 911 call-takers/dispatchers. They answer calls for help, coordinate police response & keep everyone safe. Under high stress, they must interpret & make sense of much info: https://t.co/Y5mO9A5EB5.
We're responding to a disturbance call involving an aggressive male in North Vancouver. We've got limited information about the reason for his anger, but we have to be prepared for every and any situation. -Sgt. DeVries
Youth are one of our priorities in North Vancouver. Studies show early positive interactions with police help to foster later positive perceptions. Plus kids are just awesome! #tweetalong -Sgt. DeVries
We’re patrolling in this RCMP police car (PC)! PCs are more than just cars: they’re also mobile workstations, lunch rooms & symbols of legitimacy. In my research, I find that types/colours of PCs impact perceptions of police. Learn more: https://t.co/ESbCEJXPX9.
Informal conversations are a big part of frontline policing. Sgt. DeVries used our coffee visit to strike up conversation with a local resident. A great guy and a great discussion -Sgt. DeVries.
