Time to vote on-line.
100 years ago today the Winnipeg General Strike began because people found themselves in a precarious situation (low wages) with the inability to bargain collectively. The result of their actions is a better Canada that we all enjoy today. A century later, we find ourselves in a precarious situation (climate crisis) with the inability for collective action as a nation and around the world. Will we take action so future generations can benefit from our actions? What can we learn from the Winnipeg General Strike?
Now is the time to vote by snail-mail. Don't delay as your ballot needs to received at the return address in Terrace by 5pm, May 22. Here’s a simple voting guide to go with the instructions that were sent with your ballot. Please note it is no longer a requirement for a fully ranked ballot you have the choice. This means you can still rank all four candidates on your ballot (1st choice, 2nd choice, 3rd choice, 4th choice), however your ballot will still be counted if it i...s not fully ranked." Here is explainer video put together by another candidate's campaign. https://vimeo.com/335049469 If you have not received your ballot, text me at 250-847-3143, FB Message or email me [email protected]. Online voting window is between 5pm on Thursday, May 23 and 5pm on Friday, May 24. Voting in-person happens at the nomination meeting on Sat, May 25, 1pm.
The Smithers debate is on CICK's SoundCloud site. https://soundcloud.com/smithersradio/debate-ndp-smithers Gratitude to everyone who came out, to those who asked questions, and to those who offered their feedback. I've attached photos from Terrace, Smithers, and Hazelton events.
One of the big moments in the Enbridge campaign was when Kitimat residents voted "No" in a District of Kitimat sponsored plebiscite. (1,793 opposed versus 1,278 who supported). It was such a significant event that the BBC wrote an article called "Northern Gateway and the fight for Canada's soul". https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-27806270 The key to the win was when Kitimat residents started talking to their community members by going door to door. Patricia was a big part of this effort. What transpired was conversations about values, a vision of the future and people taking action. It was inspiring.
