Connie McBride was instrumental in bringing and keeping minor field lacrosse in New West. Her sons Jordan and Jimmy played with NWMLA before moving on to the Junior and now play with the Senior Salmonbellies. Connie fought a valiant battle with cancer and unfortunately succumbed to it many years later. The Connie McBride Field Coaching Award for 2019 goes to - Mitch Cavallarin... Mitch coached our U13 Tier 1 Field team this year. He did a fabulous job as the leader of the team which made it all the way to Provincials and winning Gold! During the regular season, they were a perfect 10-0. Three tournaments, including the Provincials, added 15 more wins! This year, the Jamie Stewart Lacrosse Citizen of the Year award goes to Lynda Callard. Lynda is an incredibly giving lady who has offered countless hours of her time to New West Minor Lacrosse. She not only has volunteered through her two sons lives in New West Minor Lacrosse as a manager along with many other roles, she continues to stay on as our current club registrar and is also the PCFL league registrar as well as the LMMLC registrar too! She is always willing to giv...e a hand for our kids in any way she can and for that we truly appreciate you Lynda! The City of New Westminster has just updated their guidance: Spectators are now PERMITTED at their OUTDOOR facilities. You may once again attend your child’s practices & games at Queen’s Park East Field.... New West Minor Lacrosse still strongly suggests that only one parent/family member attend an event. - Wear a mask while in attendance - DO NOT attend if you’re feeling unwell. - Maintain at least 2 meters physical distancing - Practice respiratory etiquette (i.e. cough into elbow/sleeve) - Sanitize or wash your hands often Please do your part in helping encourage the observance of these rules. Resist the urge to gather while watching the game. Politely remind others to do the same. We do apologize for the many updates and quickly changing guidance. Hello Salmonbellie Families, Over the years, our lacrosse community has always come together to help support families in need during the Christmas Holidays. This year I am asking our families to join together with the British Columbia Sheriff Service to help support their annual Christmas Toy Drive.... As you all know this year has been especially challenging for families and many kids will spend Christmas without toys or presents. The British Columbia Sheriff Service has supported the Vancouver Christmas Bureau for years by collecting toys which help families and children in need across the Lower Mainland. The Vancouver Christmas Bureau has seen a major decline in donations this year due to COVID-19 and are in need of our help! On December 13th my family will be collecting toys (new unwrapped toys in their original packaging) at the Queens Park East Turf between 11:00- 1:00. If you can not make the drop off time I am willing to come to your homes, and pick up the toys from your front porch. Wayne Bellwood is the founder of the New West Masters Lacrosse. Wayne was an amazing man, lacrosse player and coach. He always said learn to catch and pass first and the rest of the game will follow.
