Meet the team behind the Ken Soble Tower Rehabilitation. Over the past 5 years, they’ve rehabilitated over 1,500 affordable housing units in apartment towers. ... Their most ambitious retrofit so far? The 18-storey, 146-unit Ken Soble Tower in Hamilton. 3 years ago, the building was in a such a bad state that it had to be vacated. But ERA Architects and the City of Hamilton knew they couldn’t afford to lose this housing. If they had torn down the building, it would have taken 5 years. Fast forward 18 months, and ERA's rehabilitation approach has the building ready for occupancy, meaning 146 households can have a place to call home that much faster.
Housing is a cornerstone of sustainable and inclusive communities. National Housing Day is November 22. It is a day to recognize the important work done by housing providers like the NWTCSC to improve access to housing for everyone. This year, COVID-19 has reminded us of the importance of access to safe and affordable housing. Some of those hit hardest by the pandemic are our most vulnerable populations. Now, more than ever, National Housing Day is an opportunity to reflect on the work that still needs to be done. As our communities recover from the pandemic, we need to ensure that everyone has access to affordable and equitable housing.

The NWT Community Services Corporation Board wishes to inform the public of changes to their management and maintenance team. We wish to welcome Mr. Charles Wyman, CPM of CW Property Management Services as the new Executive Director for the Corporation. He will take up his position effective August 14, 2020. Mr. Wyman will oversee the day to day management of Northern United Place (NUP). He brings with him experience working for YKD Property Management in Yellowknife for the ...past 7 plus years and operating, as principal owner, CW Property Management Service Ltd. Mr. Wyman has recently completed his Executive Master of Business Administration degree with a focus on Real Estate Leadership. He holds the designation of Certified Property Manager (CPM). We also wish to welcome Mr. Alec Wilkes of HRC (Hard Rock Carvings) Ltd. who has assumed the maintenance contract in the building. Mr. Wilkes is familiar with NUP, having worked with the Property Manager for the last 7 years. Mr. Wilkes is responsible for the day to day operation and maintenance of the building, parking areas, furniture and equipment in NUP. We are confident, with Mr. Wilkes previous experience and knowledge of the building, it is in good hands. The Board wants to acknowledge and thank, with extreme gratitude, Gail Leonardis, Executive Director and Louis Leonardis, Property Manager for their dedication and significant work over the past 18 years. Their contributions and guidance will be sorely missed by not only the board, but the many tenants who have come to know and rely on them over these many years. Their hard work and diligence have greatly benefited and supported the objectives of the organization; to provide accommodation and meeting places for, among others, religious, educational, charitable and voluntary organizations. In addition, they ensured the needs of our anchor tenant, Aurora College were continuously met. While they will be missed by all of us, their hard work and diligence have greatly benefited us. We wish them the very best in their future endeavours. Thank you!

It is very disheartening to go to all the work of creating something lovely to look at to have someone disrespect it.

Delicious meal delivered to all of our Senior residents this week. Thank you Northern Chicks Catering - as always it looks great!
Many of our tenants are looking forward to seeing family and friends again! Just a reminder to make sure you are limiting your gathering to no more than 5 or less non-residents in the house, practice social distancing and be respectful of your neighbours and the time. Quiet hours are 11 pm to 7 am.
With the new Order from the Chief Public Health Officer to limit all social gatherings, Security at Northern United Place will be allowing only 1 person per unit into the building to delivery goods or do a wellness check. Individuals just going to "visit" will not be allowed to proceed. Please keep reaching out to family and friends who live in the building by phone, email, text and video chat! Thanks for your co-operation and your assistance in keeping our elders and immuno-compromised tenants safe!
