Hi Friends, I'm delighted to share with you that on May 14th, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. MST, you will get an opportunity to sneak-peak into my upcoming album: Mannat (a prayer, a wish). This album makes a conversation between my #ethnomusicological research and performance-learning of singing Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai's poetry from two master musicians at the place of my birth and upbringing, Sindh, Pakistan. Their names are: Ustad Hameed Ali Khan Sahib from the Gwalior Gharana and Fa...qir Jumman Shah from the shrine of Shah Latif. Regretfully, my Ustad/my baba, Ustad Hameed Ali Khan Sahib (Gwalior) is not with us today, but I dedicate this album to his memory. I would like to thank the Edmonton Arts Council (EAC)'s Cultural Diversity Award for making this album happen, and the contributions of several amazing musicians, most importantly Mehdi Rezania on Santur and Ojas Joshi on Tabla. I would also like to thank my Ph.D. mentors: Regula Burckhardt Qureshi and Michael Frishkopf and my mother for their continuing support for my performance-learning. My journey to study Ethnomusicology in Canada was made possible by the gracious graduate scholarship from the Institute of Ismaili Studies for my M.A. and Ph.D. followed by grants and bursaries from the University of Alberta and some educational loans that supported the completion of the degree. This week, I will perform pieces from my album at the Canadian Music Week: Virtual 2021, which is a great honor and pride. Thank you so much for being part of this journey that was both exciting and full of challenges! I will humbly count on you to support my music by liking and sharing this video on social media and subscribing my Youtube and sharing positive comments. #CMW #CBCSearchlight #eac #yegmusic #yycmusic #albertamusic #bipocartists #womencomposer #womeninmusic #Sindh https://youtu.be/UJcCWdXXuFY

This year, 2020, I had my greatest adventures in travels and teaching as well as my lowest lows, but these have reminded me that the Universe has my back!!!!!! I am so pleased to share with you, dear friends, that my composition Perils of Heavy Rainfall, which was recently premiered at the Society for Ethnomusicology virtual conference 2020 was awarded the Second Prize by the Canadian Association for Acoustic Ecology’s recent competition called Listening During Covid.

So delighted to share that my proposed composition "Awakening/Be-Daari" has been selected to be performed for an important Canadian festival titled: "Deterritorializing the Realm of New Music." I am so honored to be working with an excellent Iranian pianist: Anoush Moazenni and looking forward to adapting this work for piano, voice, Spoken Word, and Electronics and contribute to an important moment in Canadian music history that is increasingly absorbing the voices of ibpoc composers. #womencomposers #womeninmusic #leadership # #indiemusic #bipocvoices #music #songwriting
