Welcome to the team Daisy and Parker! We wanted to take a moment to highlight the amazing work of Oakville Milton Humane Society and all their staff, fosters and volunteers. If you are thinking of adding to your family think about reaching out to a humane society or rescue organization (we love @labrescuegta)! Dr. Waters and Dr. Baird just adopted new additions to their families through OMHS. Dr. Waters’ Daisy is an 11 week old terrier mix and Dr. Baird’s Parker is a 5 month... old kitten. Not only are you supporting great organizations, you get so many benefits - pets come with their first set of vaccines, are spayed/neutered, have a microchip and even come with a month long free trial of pet insurance! #adoptme #newadditiontothefamily #omhs #oakvillemiltonhumanesociety #labrescuegta #rescuecat #rescuedogsofinstagram #adoptadogsavealife #oakvillevet #oakville #burlingtonvet

Some breeds get a bad reputation, but if you met gorgeous German Shepherds Rambo or Chance (swipe right) you’d fall in love. These two boys have been extensively socialized so that they love coming to the vet and they especially love meeting new people! #nobadbreeds #loveallbreeds #germanshepherd #germanshepherdsofinstagram #oakville #oakvillevet

Fun fact: did you know that all Scottish Fold cats are born with straight ears and will generally fold at about 21 days? Every year we participate in the high school co-op program with various schools in Oakville and Burlington. We attract students with an interest in animal care who want to learn more about what it means to be a veterinarian. Many love what they learn and continue with us after their co-op as volunteers or become staff members! Carla and Rebecca are two of our awesome students from this semester who we know will achieve great things! #highschoolcoop #cooperativeeducation #assumptioncatholicschool #corpuschristicatholicschool #weloveourjob

You’d never guess from Snoop’s happy face and bouncy demeanour that he had eaten not one, not two, but FOUR socks. Even his family was blown away - he came in to induce vomiting because he had accidentally eaten grapes, which are toxic to dogs, but when we made him vomit we found four hiding out in his stomach! This just goes to show that you never know what your dog might eat when you’re not home! For sneaky pups like Snoop it’s always good to have a plan in place to keep ...their adventurous noses away from potential hazards. Whether you decide to crate train, or just block off certain areas when your dog is unsupervised, find a compromise that works for your family to keep your pup out of harms way. #foreignbodyfriday #socklover #doodlesofinstagram #dogsofoakville #bernadoodle #oakville #oakvillevet #burlingtonvet #burlington #kerrvillage

Look at Findlay go! Findlay has had a long road to recovery after an accident in June when he dislocated both his hips. We proceeded to do hip surgery (a femoral head ostectomy) to alleviate his pain. However, needing surgery on both legs simultaneously meant he needed long term physiotherapy and rehabilitation to regain his strength. The team at @soarvetservices has done an amazing job helping to get him to this point with his water treadmill workouts and stability exercises! #whatatrooper #physiotherapy #doggierehab #rehab #fho #femoralheadostectomy #muttlove #rescuedogsofinstagram

Our first thoughts on meeting Bear: We adore all Frenchies/Pugs/Bulldogs/Peakinese/ShihTzus/Cavaliers etc (our so called squishy faced breeds) but if you are thinking of adding one to the family you want to consider the following: - Shortened faces generally mean the jaw doesn’t line up perfectly + there’s less room for all 42 so be ready to brush regularly and commit to dental cleanings by your vet to keep your pets mouth healthy - Breathing can be more difficult d...ue to the anatomy of the nose, throat and airway in these breeds, something known as Brachycephalic Airway Syndrome (BAS) - Some parts of BAS need to be surgically fixed, so setting up a savings fund for your pet or considering pet insurance is always a good idea - Know your breed - every breed has a different temperament, personality (and medical) predisposition you want to consider when picking the right pet for your family #pickingapuppy #brachycephalic #brachycephalicdogsofinstagram #brachycephalyawareness #puppylove #oakvillevet #burlingtonvet

One of our goals is to make every visit a happy, positive experience for your pet. You can see that Tyson is perfectly comfortable getting his vaccines (he actually doesn’t even notice) because Dr. Warren is directing his attention to a delicious treat. This is called positive reinforcement - giving a reward (food or otherwise) when performing a behaviour we’re looking for (standing calmly and getting vaccines). Can you believe Tyson is only 4 months old and he’s already so good at this! Get out those rewards and try practicing positive reinforcement at home for nail trims, or handling sensitive areas like the ears/feet/tail. #fearfree #fearfreepets #happyvisits #loveourjob #happypuppy #oakville #oakvillevet #burlingtonvet
