Today we would like to share some of the most common signs and symptoms that your dog or cat has some degree of dental disease... Your pet’s teeth should be checked by your veterinarian at least once a year in order to detect any early signs of dental disease However, as pet parents, we should be sure to have a look in our pet’s mouths on a routine basis to monitor for any of these signs. If you do notice any of these listed symptoms, or notice any other changes with your pet’s teeth, mouth or gums, they should be checked out by their veterinarian sooner Did you know that many pet owners believe that it is normal for dogs and cats to have smelly breath? This is actually not the case! Bad breath in pet’s is typically caused by bacteria in the mouth and is the most common tell tale sign that your pet has some varying degree of dental disease, be it mild or severe. DENTAL MONTH QUESTION & ANSWER Q: when do i need to start brushing my pets teeth? A. We recommend starting to brush your pets teeth as soon as possible. For our puppies and kittens, it is best to start no sooner than when they have all of their adult teeth (approximately 6 months of age). ... This being said, it is good to acclimate your puppy and kitten to having their teeth brushed, right away. Here are some ways to do so. Massage your pet’s lips, teeth and gums: Situate your pet in a comfortable position. Using just your fingers, massage your pet’s lips in slow, circular motions for up to 1 minute once or twice a day. Next, massage his teeth and gums using the same motion. We hope you all enjoyed this helpful information. Pet of the Week This weeks pet of the week is our wonderful furry family member, Stella! Stella came in to see us as her loving family noticed that she had quite a few porcupine quills stuck to her face! Though they were able to remove most of them at home, they thought it would be best to have her seen by Dr.G to have any remaining quills removed and ensure that she was not in any discomfort, or risking infection. Dr.G thoroughly assessed sweet Stella and it was determined that her nostrils, inside of her mouth, throat and neck were all completely clear of any remaining quills. The only one that was still present (see next image), was hiding itself under all of the fur on her cheeks! We are happy to share that Stella has since kept herself out of trouble

Hey everyone! Today we have a very special furry family member for you all this sweet girl is Kibou. Kibou is a new furry family member to our hospital as her wonderfully loving family has just recently rescued her! We were so happy to be able to meet and help keep Kibou happy & comfortable during her visit here at Lakeshore Road Animal Hospital It is especially important to us during this time, when restrictions prevent our pet parents from entering the building, to keep our furry friends comfortable during their visit. Our team ensures to take every step necessary in ensuring your pets do not feel alarmed without you by their side. Kibou did so well with our team and truly enjoyed every second of her visit, we can not wait to see her again!

It's almost the holidays! Today we wanted to share our updated hours for the holiday season with you all. Our team here at Lakeshore Road Animal Hospital has been working around the clock and extremely hard, during this continuously challenging time. In honour of the holidays, they are taking some much needed time to be with their own loved ones (furry ones included of course). So, on Thursday, December 24th (Christmas Eve) we will be open from 9am - 3pm. Friday, Dece...mber 25th through Sunday, December 27th, we will be closed for the holidays. On Thursday, December 31st, we will be open from 9am - 3pm as it is New Year's Eve! and on Friday, January 1st, we will be closed. PET OF THE WEEK Happy Friday everyone!! today’s beautiful pet of the week is our sweet girl Ivy Ivy came to us one night as her loving family was very concerned that being the lab she is... ate something she was simply not supposed to! this silly girl got into some homemade, raw dough rolls! Ivy’s mom did the right thing by coming to us as raw dough can tend to expand even once in the tummy, and this could have caused some major complications for this pretty girl. ... upon assessment and with a thorough history, Dr.G determined the best course of action for Ivy was to induce vomiting right away to get all of the dough out.
