Just like that, during this global situation that is stirring up our fears and unsettling our hearts, we have been given the gift of time. To flatten the curve for the COVID-19 pandemic, for our safety, we have been encouraged to stay and even work from home. One by one, the institutions around us closed their doors to do the same. We now have time to spend with our closest family, time to rake through so many thoughts and emotions, time to read, time to figure out how to en...tertain children of all ages, and time to clean out even the deepest corners our cupboards. In addition to all of that, we now also have ample time to explore and to re-evaluate what is dearest to our hearts. While cleaning out our cupboards, we should also start cleaning up the hidden corners of our hearts and our souls. Not so easy to make time for that otherwise, right? We have access to everything that is essential to us: food, water, heat, electricity, internet, a government that cares about our well-being, and we even have Netflix. We have so much to be grateful for! I see this as an opportunity for healing. I’m thinking healing on all levels here: self-healing, healing of relationships, healing of communities, etc. This situation is encouraging us to take an introspective dive, while also detoxing us from our daily routines, our thinking patterns, and from our social lives. Though the pandemic put the whole world in such a difficult and scary state, it is at the same time offering us a huge opportunity for healing and growth moving forward. However, to see what those opportunities may be, we have to keep our minds and hearts open. The year 2020 is said to be a year of deep changes and perspective shifts from capitalism and materialism to spiritual growth and an increase in self- and social awareness. Expansion hurts, and for growth to take place, difficult challenges must be overcome. Leave room for mistakes and for frustration, because, as I tell my students, when you make mistakes and it feels uncomfortable, you can be sure that you are truly learning. So take a risk, and take a moment to really get to know yourself. Who are you, and what do you wish for in your life? Going forward, cherish this gift of time by taking care of yourself and your loved ones, but use it also to explore parts of your mind, your soul, and your wishes for the future. We can only ever influence the present moment, so use this moment right now to set your positive intentions, and to will for your future to be a brilliant one.
