Starting 2021 off right and highly recommending : by Thich Nhat Hanh. How are you setting yourself up for success this new year? Our minds, our bodies, and the spaces we live in are all related. Our inner space and our peace of mind are affected by our outer space. The Buddha said, 'The mind, through its action is the chief architect of one's own happiness and suffering.' It's hard for the mind to be peaceful when th...e body is not in a physical space that's peaceful. When we have a peaceful space, then we can come back to ourselves. That is the intention of sacred space. But we don't need to wait until we can find a church, temple, mosque, synagogue, or other space designed for sacred contemplation. A small path, the edge of a sidewalk, a patch of grass, or a corner of our workspace will do. If we make space for contemplation and meditation right in our own homes, then peace and joy are always available to us. I was trained as an architect, to look at every space as having a particular intention. You can look at your home that way as well.

In classical feng shui there is a keen focus on where the head of the household sleeps (usually the master bedroom). The small tai ji technique is used to position the bed for optimized health and success in work and business. Avoid positioning the bed above the stove or fireplace.... The element of fire disturbs the energy needed for rest and can have a negative impact on health. Avoid positioning the bed under large beams, ceiling fans, or heavy chandeliers. These large fixtures press on the occupants of the room while they are sleeping and at their most vulnerable. This creates issues for physical health, finances, and relationships. To remedy and enjoy the use of beams in the bedroom, sleep under a canopy bed as they are excellent for classical feng shui because of its protective qualities. Avoid sharing your headboard with the wall of the toilet. Avoid sharing the wall, and especially avoid having the toilet directly on the opposite side of the wall from your headboard. Avoid positioning the head of your bed under a window. This causes Qi from outside, including smells, sounds, and others, to disrupt your sleep and results in weak energy levels. To remedy this, position the head of your bed securely against a solid wall for protection and support from the back.
