Ottawa Architecture Week 21.06.2021

Our next speaker for OAW Talks this Thursday this Thursday is Matthew Jerabek. Matthew is a creative who enjoys exploring the nature of the world through engaging people and ideas and bringing them together in the pursuit of progress. His role leading the Algonquin College Makerspace enables this pursuit by bringing new people and new ideas to the fore regularly. He believes that collaboration is key and that a space is nothing without a community. Matthew's talk is on the po...wer of creative collaboration that he saw in his daily interactions in the DARE district and Algonquin College’s MakerSpace. Having to collaborate virtually over the past few months has solidified the notion that the spaces in which we do things are critical to the outcomes of the things we do. Our next speaker for OAW Talks this Thursday this Thursday is Christian Ledwell. Christian is originally from Prince Edward Island and has spent, the last five years working on climate change adaptation policy research and communications with the International Institute for Sustainable Development. He is based in Gatineau. Christian's talk is about climate change impacts like rising sea levels that are happening today, and are on track to worsen even if we dramatically reduce... our greenhouse gas emissions. Adapting to climate change in order to build the resilience of communities, ecosystems and economies will be an immense challenge, and everyone has a part to play. Ottawa Architecture Week 11.06.2021

The first speaker we're profiling for this Thursday's OAW Talks, Powered By PechaKucha, is Catherine Humhprey. Catherine is both a copy writer, published author, writing under the pen name CJ Butler (with debut novel, The Japson Club to be followed by the imminently due sequel novel, The Wolff Legacy), and also a Senior Project Manager, working on construction projects for BGIS. Certainly her two worlds influence one another, with her life in construction inspiring her novels... which follow young frustrated project manager Anna, surviving in the wilds of site trailer living, while also navigating the political minefield of corporate life in head office. Coming from the point of view of a now permanent home-worker, who has seen the rhythm of working life change completely during the pandemic, Catherine considers the effects of the new way of life, and how they have both created restriction and personal growth.
