2020 was 'supposed' to be my 'grand finale' last (full time) season! Thinking maybe mid-late July pending no big changes. As I've suggested for 30+ years to 'locals', going out mid June to mid July has it's risks (weather and lack of whales, or too far for the conditions). No disrespect to my colleagues, but they've had some much poorer than average trips so far - so why wouldn't you wait for better odds?... We are still watching and reviewing what is happening and I won't lie, the fear of getting/bringing home 'the covid' is a big factor (our ages and existing health issues in the home). We are learning more and more about it being in the air and more and more about how little we know about it! Stay tuned .... and stay safe! *40th includes 5 summers in NFLD (coincidentally probably worst calendar magnet design for cutting off the photo portion, post 2020! dooohhh! I am going to have a lot of leftovers)

June 8 - World Oceans Day - there is little doubt that I (Tom Goodwin) will be out watching whales this summer. Just hard to even imagine, if any guests will be with me, beyond 'bubble' (private family groups) charters. . My 40th* summer 'whale-guiding' - Not a great celebration this year, probably one of my last few years. Yes, I'm getting ready to pass the reigns onto younger, more energetic people, but a forced closure (or even reduction) was not the way I hoped to wind do...wn my career. *(40 includes 5 in Nfld.) . I ask that everyone reflect on how we got here. WE have caused so much damage to the planet and eco-systems that one of the weak links seamed to break. ... There are a LOT of weak links in these ecosystem webs. We really need to find a way to stop causing so much damage to them. . Instead I will 'celebrate' this annual day of recognition with two special videos for you to watch in your (increased) free time. Hopefully we will get to see these whales 'live' and in a respectful manner again, in the close future. . Howdy Facebook fans! ... I have been 'cutting back' 2019+, and decided to reduce Facebook posting(s) (many reasons, perhaps I will elaborate later). Yesterday was an absolutely gorgeous day, and we 'discovered' Old Thom off Tiverton. Lots of breaching and flipper slapping this summer, of course and we have had 3 DOUBLE breaches which I was able to predict for people to get great videos and photos.
