I’m not on social media much these days, I’m actually avoiding it, even my business accounts I’m hiking without posting a shot to my stories, working out without showing a sweaty selfie, eating good without sharing the pics, having no-device dinners, no screen time hours, reading, drawing, playing with blu outside ... all without sharing a single thing and it actually feels GREAT Sometimes I forget where I’ve even left my phone ... When I come on here these days I can’t help but feel like everyone’s trying to: 1. Change something about me - get me to be a better version of myself be more productive do more with my time 2. Sell me something - there’s always a code, a discount, a program, a deal you can’t miss out on 3. Sell me something to change something about myself ... I genuinely don’t feel any better after I log off I’m not saying there’s anything wrong with marketing on social media, I did/do it for Ocean Blue too! I’m just living life a little differently these days, a little less for others and a little more for myself I’m trying to go back to the time when we just lived, and did, without the constant need to be seen and heard by everyone I have NO idea what’s in store for Ocean Blue, or myself ... but I DO know I won’t find the answers or feel any better by worrying about how to beat the Instagram algorithm or posting daily to not lose followers or trying to gain more likes or more people on my feed I’m looking forward to connecting in person with everyone again when we’re allowed, but for now, I encourage you to stop living through your device for others, and start living a little more, off screen, just for yourself xo, Em

In regards to the lockdown taking place I’ve decided the safest thing for us all right now is for me to put all my remaining sessions this week on hold until we are allowed to re-open in the new year. Any & all sessions purchased will be honoured when I’m given clearance to do so. We’ve done this before, we can do it again!... Somehow (hard work & amazing support) we managed to actually G R O W in 2020 ... So much so that I’ve decided we’re going into 2021 with a new action plan (no matter what the year has in store for us) Honestly, I’ve been stumbling my way through it all since day 1, no business experience, learning as I go, never expecting things would expand as fast as they have, (again somehow) miraculously creating the beautiful and thriving studio Ocean Blue Fitness is today... You can be an active person and not have defined musculature. You can be very fit and not have visible abdominal muscles. You can make physical activity a regular part of your life, and you may still live in a body that society deems as less than. You can lift heavy weights or run regularly or any of the things - and live in a fat body. And the value of physical activity is real and protective regardless of appearance. Fact. You can eat trendy foods. You can eat greens. You can eat or drink fermented things. You can eat fresh food. You can eat in a way that would be largely described as healthy. (I have a very hard time with the description of ‘healthy’ being used around the human diet. In my box, health is all about balance. Nutritious foods matter. Delicious foods matter. But, I digress.) You can eat a diet that is rich in fiber and phytonutrients and omega three fatty acids. And your body will look the way that it is designed to look. Suggesting that food choice can change aesthetic in isolation is not an accurate statement, if we are not considering socioeconomic status FIRST. Eat your acai bowls if you’d like. Chomp on kale if it pleases. Eat your cauliflower pizza crust if that’s desirable. And know that in the process of feeding yourself in a way that may ostensibly be identified as healthy, your body might not change. The biggest fact of all: if your motivation for physical activity and eating is about physical change, most will be disappointed with the results. Most of the described results are about genetics, anyway. Eating in a way that is healthful and moving your body regularly, if you’re able to, it’s great. And it’s also your choice whether or not you want to prioritize these things. You owe your health and your self-care choices to no one. Fact: Food is awesome. Movement is a privilege. Focusing on aesthetic is a set up for feeling like shit and moving away from self care practices. Don’t.
