Today I'm taking some time to share a new French expression with you :) "Faire tourner quelqu'un en bourrique" literally "to turn someone into a donkey" ... No, that person is not a magician! It simply means: "to exasperate somebody by making too many jokes or by having too many demands toward this person". "Une bourrique" is a familiar term for "un âne" (a donkey). Salut à tous, Aujourd'hui étudions une expression française rigolote (yeah another one!) Poser un lapin ... Literally "to put a rabbit" Is that due to the Easter Bunny? Not at all. It's an old expression which means "to not pay for the favors of a woman" in 1889. "Poser" was a slang for "to make somebody wait" and a "lapin" at that time was a libertin who was leaving the girls of little virtue (as we call them in French) without paying the price they've settled on. How rude!! Nowadays "poser un lapin" is still rude because it means "to not show up to an appointment" or "to cancel very last minute" generally between friends or with a date. Bonjour bonjour ! It's been a while since my last post but I was really busy. "Bienvenue !" to all the new followers on my page, I'm glad if you take pleasure reading my fun French facts. Last week, 2 little girls with whom I work asked me why the verb aller looks so "bizarre" when we conjugate it. ... Indeed that's an excellent question! To answer it, we need to dig in the past. French is a Latin language, consequently most of our "exceptions" come from there. Aller is an excellent example. Indeed, the French language decided to mix the verbs "allare" and "vadare" while conjugating. They meant more or less the same in the Latin language and that's how it gave birth to the verb "aller" as we know it today. Let's talk today about a common mistake new French learners make. The famous "je suis chaude" instead of "j'ai chaud". Ladies this one is for you! If you say "je suis chaude" it means "I'm horny" so I'd recommend you avoid it, except if of course you want to attract a charming French guy...but still ;) importance of chosing the right auxiliary.
