News from KA & KB The last two weeks have been very busy in Mrs. Pearson’s Kindergarten Classes with the addition of two teacher candidates from the University of Saskatchewan, Alyson Hein (Miss Hein) and Elena Nykiforuk.(Miss Nykiforuk). They had the opportunity to see what it is like to teach Kindergarten at a very busy time of the year and in a pandemic. They also enjoyed time spent in other classes. Miss Nykiforuk spent time in Mrs. Follick’s Pre-K Class and Miss Hein... spent time in Miss Lang’s Grade 2 class and both teacher candidates helped out with Grade 4 Math in Miss Bayda’s class. They showed their enthusiasm and excitement to be a part of the Kindergarten class, learning all the children’s names and participating in whatever was needed in any lesson at any time. They did not hesitate to pick up a book to read a story, guide and ask questions during letter or math time, participate in and lead morning meeting, as well as join in as the children were exploring a construction theme at playtime. Miss Hein and Miss Nykiforuk co-created and taught a lesson on bugs, specifically ladybugs and bees. They dressed the part sparking the kids interest right away. It was awesome to see them get right into character and the kids’ loved it! Wow, look at those unique and individual rock ladybugs and bees that the children created! It was great to see the collaboration and communication between the two teachers as they reflected on how things went and what could be done differently and what they would keep the same for the next time. Lucky for them, they could put those changes in place the following day with the other K-Class. The lesson about bugs carried on in the Outdoor Classroom where the Kinders looked and found ladybugs and other bugs as they explored. Both will make very good teachers and I am glad that we had the opportunity to be a part of their journey. We hope they come back for a visit someday. We wish them all the best! See more
