Received an email from Quickbooks today in response to the the Jan 2021 Payroll Tax Table in Quickbooks Desktop: Great News!!... As part of the January 2021 payroll tax table update, we included the new T4 boxes 57-60 for COVID-19 government relief payments. Currently, these boxes do not auto-fill and require manual calculations and editing from the user. Based on your feedback, we have an update scheduled for release in early February that will make them auto-fill while still letting you edit them as needed. What should you do? If you have the ability to wait, then please be patient while we work to bring you this new software as fast as we can. We will be sending another notification to you when the new feature is available. If you do not have the ability to wait until February we have devised a new community article in our Live Community to assist you in gaining the information to populate and fill in these new boxes in your tax forms. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused, and appreciate your understanding. Thank you for being a loyal QuickBooks Desktop customer.

Latest update from Intuit QB desktop: boxes 57-60 for new T4 requirements will need to be done manually. I must say I am very disappointed in Intuit. They released the updated boxes in QBO, but are not going to be available in QB desktop. So not only do you have to complete the boxes manually, you will also have to manually enter each T4 into CRA electronic forms. The result of this will be so inpactful to all businesses and bookkeeping/accounting firms in Canada. Many will decide to mail in T4s to CRA instead, and will bombard the CRA will manual entry on their end. This upcoming tax season will be strained, as we will have less T4s available for import.
