Filming on this day last year with youngest daughter Abby both in front of and behind the camera -helping with the special effects make up (interestingly, it is daughter Emily who just announced at Thanksgiving dinner last night that she would like to train to do special effects make-up professionally). It was kind of meta to film at White’s where all the cool big movie equipment lives, for Tug Phipps’ horror film Crew Cull (about a new A.I. equipment control app that allows ...producers to cut their crew in half!). Badass Fest is still alive! Plague, fire and other current signs of the end-times can’t kill it! Although the biggest Badass Fest yet -Badass 6 (which was to be over four days/venues @ Commercial drive neighbourhood in Vancouver) back in March was cancelled by Covid just days before launch, the 2020 genre script and film awards went ahead online with thousands in industry prizes awarded ( vbaff.com ). As of now, past years Badass Fest script winners in 2018 and 2019 films hav...e been made, with a 2020 script winner going into (Covid safe) production this fall, supported in part by Badass 6 script contest winner industry prizes, so there is that. We hoped to screen kind of a Badass 6.5 one night showcase this fall, but unfortunately conditions still won’t allow for one of our legendary gatherings. However, hope springs eternal for Badass 7 in spring 2021. The genre script contest and film awards will go ahead, and we’ll do everything online if we have to.
