On Sunday May 3rd, Ashley Watts (McKelvie) had the opportunity to meet and film a video with Watts School of Dance's MP Deepak Anand @deepakanandmpp Ashley’s goal was to advocate for all dance studios and dance competitions in Ontario to stress the importance of government aid during the COVID-19 crisis The majority of dance studios, and many other small businesses, do not qualify for the government business loans. In addition, the commercial rent relief program has bee...n put in the hands of the landlords and MANY landlords will not be applying for these loans for their tenants. This leaves small businesses to cover the overhead in their own while taking in little to no revenue at this time Watts School of Dance and Deepak Anand is asking for the dance community to spread the word and help the Ontario dance community! We will tag 5 dance studios as well as Deepak Anand. In an effort to keep our dancers motivated, active and social (from a distance), WSD will be launching the "WSD Google Classroom Initiative commencing April 6th, 2020. Our platform consists of the following: STAY ACTIVE-Recreational dancers will get opportunities to review the choreography already learned on their recital dances with their teachers as well as get to add onto their dances. They will also get the opportunity to learn from other WSD teachers and guest chor...eographers. This is a great opportunity to try a dance disciple that you have never tried before! Competitive dancers will get opportunities to review choreography, work on strength/stretching/conditioning, and technique. They will also get the opportunity to learn from other WSD teachers and guest choreographers. It is important to keep our competitive dancers training as competitions will be postponing for summer dates and we must keep our dancers ready for when we return! STAY SOCIAL- Dancers are able to see their teachers from the comfort of their own living room. We have the potential to have open forums through Google Classroom where teachers and dancers can connect with each other, see each other, talk to each other and train together STAY MENTALLY HEALTHY- Our main focus is the health and well-being of our dancers. This time can be very challenging for our youth, some of whom may not quite understand why there are school closures and cancellations of their activities. They are also likely to be bombarded with news, social media and anxiety that they can pick up on from the adults. WSD has arranged for mental health professionals, motivational speakers and mental performance coaches to help our dancers through these trying times. STAY SAFE-WSD is fully committed to the privacy and security of our clients. Google Classroom is a closed forum and can only be accessed by teachers and dancers.
