Have you seen the video of the dog and kid on the trampoline yet? It's very cute, and the kid is so luck to have a four-legged-friend who loves to jump as much as they do....but I bring a word of warning. PLEASE DON'T TRY THIS AT HOME. Most dogs would be really uncomfortable put in this situation, and the risk for injury is really high.... 77% of dog bites are caused by a dog that the person knows, either a family dog, or a friend's dog. Why take the risk?

It's a constant battle - Who gets to go down the stairs first? It's me of course, but that doesn't stop Jack from trying to rush the gate, or squeeze through my legs. Sound familiar? I'm not trying to go first because I'm The Alpha (we all know that's BS anyway), it's because safety comes first...Jack likes to jump down the steps...I need to be able to catch him if he falls.... The other day I caught myself asking Jack to "Back Up", and then "Wait" as I opened the baby gate, followed by "Let's Go" as I preceded him down the stairs - the exact same routine I teach new puppies that come to visit. And you know what - it worked! No more pushing/fighting around the gate....now to work on toilet training!! . . . When Off Track Dog Training was brand new I wanted my business to look legit, and I thought .com was the best way to go. Now, ten years later, it's more important for me to be recognized as a local Canadian company - proud and strong.

Do you talk to your kids about dog safety? Last night my 4 year old gave me a quick lesson on dog body language: G: Look Mommy, Chase is "excited" and now he's "bored".... Me: That's so cool! What do we do if a dog is excited? G: We ignore them. Me: And if they're bored? G: I sit on my bottom and ask if they want to come say hi. Excited and Bored were not my words, this is Georgia's interpretation based on the ongoing dialog we have every time we encounter a dog on our adventures. Wanna know more about dog body language, taught by a certified dog trainer - not a 4 year old?
