Surprised and delighted to find this in my local downtown Toronto @sobeys.

So to make tasting notes on the new @barchefproject Late Harvest Vesper, I sampled it three different ways: at room temperature (on the left), chilled on its own (centre) and chilled with a lemon twist (right), as Bond ordered it in Casino Royale. Here’s what I found. On its own at room temperature, it shows a distinct alcoholic heat, as would be expected of a 36% alcohol beverage. But that aside, the sweetness of the wine comes through marvellously and allows the spruce-tip ...gin (made at @stalkandbarrel) to shine without being overpowering, as it might otherwise be at this temperature. Chilled, the boozy bite is gone, or at least relegated to a gently warming finish, while the gin and Vidal get along even more harmoniously. I am a fan of the Vesper cocktail, and while I don’t think I would immediately recognize this as such were it to be served to me blind, there are sufficient similarities that I can say this is a very interesting and enjoyable riff on the classic. It is with the lemon twist, however, that the Late Harvest Vesper reaches its true potential. The aroma of the lemon skin and the soft spray of lemon oil over the surface of the drink bring all the components together, taming the wine’s sweetness which, to be honest, strays towards being a bit too much in the other versions and harmonizing beautifully with the gin. More like a classic Vesper than without the twist, in fact almost identifiably so, and certainly a creative and quite delicious cocktail. Packaged cocktails so often disappoint and leave me wondering why anyone would pay extra for the privilege of not assembling, say, a Manhattan or a gin and tonic at home. The Barchef Project drinks, on the other hand, both the Late Harvest Vesper and the Toasted Old Fashioned, provide something unique, creative and very, very tasty. In other words, a flavour experience I could not replicate at home, even if I were a better bartender than I am, and that, my friends, is definitely worth the money.

Hey Ontario, this is back full time! Wellington's OG ale in cans from the brewery store or by delivery. This is one of the beers upon which Ontario craft brewing was built, so even if you have never before tried it, you should give it some time! #oncraft #ontariocraftbeer #FlagshipFavorite #bestbitter #beersofinstagram

Snow in the forecast? Who cares! It's still May, and to Stephen that means featuring a few bocks in today's Ontario Beer Delivery Review. Along with a maibock from @Godspeed Brewery and a helles bock collaboration between Brunswick Bierworks and HOPSTEINER, he has a doppelbock collaboration between Brunswick and the La Trappe monastic brewery of the Netherlands. Although Stephen picked up his beers today, both Brunswick and Godspeed offer free delivery with a minimum order within the Toronto area. Check the brewery websites or obdi.ca for details.

This time, we have a brewery from Parry Sound that delivers all across Ontario, Trestle Brewing, and their 30,000 Islands IPA. It's an original take on the style and, as Stephen says, sort of a bridge between the old and new. Trestle delivers for free within the Parry Sound area and across the province for a flat fee.
