Yesterday, our people joined together from across the province to stand in solidarity with our Mi’kmaq brothers and sisters. What is happening to our Relatives ...out east is a disgrace and cannot be tolerated. From fishing in Nova Scotia, to our own hunting and harvesting here in Manitoba, our rights and traditions are under threat across the country. But yesterday, our Leaders and community members stood in solidarity and said enough is enough! Watch the powerful speeches from our Leaders, as well as the symbolic Horse Spirit Ride on our event page: https://www.facebook.com/events/350064612771567 We also want to say a big thank you to everyone who made this event possible! Grand Chief Jerry Daniels, Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc., Manitoba Metis Federation, Assembly of First Nations Canada, and the Bear Clan Patrol Inc! Thank you to the leader of the procession, Pearl Henry, from Roseau River First Nation, and to Mary Ann Patrick, who made the majestic Horse Spirit Ride possible. Thank you to our SCO Youth Eagle Staff Carrier, Jacob Cramer from Sagkeeng First Nation, to our Flag Carrier, Margaret Swan from Lake Manitoba First Nation, and our Emcee, Tina Keeper from Norway House Cree Nation. Finally, thank you to our staff who supported the event in-person: Joy, Patricia, Kathy, Al, Anike, and Caitlin! Miigwetch, Wopida! #MikmaqRights #AllEyesOnMikmaki

Grand Chief Jerry Daniels & the Southern Chiefs’ Organization wish everyone a safe and healthy long weekend! Let’s all do our part to keep those around us safe..., especially our Elders. Enjoy small gatherings indoors with family and loved ones from your household, and when meeting with extended family, take care to physically distance and meet outside. Always wash your hands, wear a mask when you can’t distance, and self-isolate if you feel sick. #FirstNations #Longweekend See more

Today, Anishinaabeg and Dakota peoples will assume greater control of their health and wellness as a result of an historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) sig...ning in an innovative virtual ceremony between GCIndigenous Services Canada and Minister of Indigenous Services, Marc Miller; Southern Chiefs’ Organization (SCO) Grand Chief, Jerry Daniels; and Chair of the Chief’s Health Action Table, Pine Creek First Nation Chief Karen Batson - Pine Creek First Nation. The MOU outlines the values and principles of equitable and culturally appropriate health care for the 34 First Nations that form the SCO, and formalizes both parties’ commitment to a working relationship. Health Transformation will create a new First Nations health governance structure that is representative of, and accountable to, First Nation communities. The MOU recognizes the expertise of First Nation communities and health care professionals in developing and implementing a First Nations-governed health system. The model will be community-led and holistic, encompassing physical, spiritual, mental, economic, environmental, social, and cultural wellness. In recognition of National #IndigenousHistoryMonth and an historic Memorandum-of-Understanding (MOU), the Southern Chiefs' Organization (SCO) and Macdonald Yout...h Services (MYS) commemorated their partnership today with the raising of the SCO flag at Macdonald Youth Services’ head office. On September 18, 2019, SCO and MYS signed the MOU, recognizing a ground-breaking partnership to build, in full collaboration, a governance and community care model that reflects the ongoing needs and aspirations of the First Nations of southern Manitoba. Grand Chief Jerry Daniels noted, This relationship is founded on principles of reconciliation and the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, acknowledging that all services and structures affecting southern First Nation children, families, and communities must be developed and delivered in a manner consistent with Treaty and Indigenous rights. Grand Chief Daniels added, It’s significant to see First Nations working with large organizations co-developing a structure that works. Read more: http://scoinc.mb.ca/mys-flag-raising-2020/
