In the past few weeks Volunteers have noticed the theft of trail signs and markers, the swapping of trail signs and the theft of trail signs at the Quinte Conservation site of the O'Hara Mills Homestead. Further, the lawn near the main parking lot was badly torn up by vehicles "doing donuts" around the same time. While heartbreaking, the hardworking Volunteers took to making things whole again; re-marking trails, posting new signage, harrowing the damaged lawn and erecting a beautiful rail fence to deter further incidents. When you come into the main parking lot next time you will notice a change. The grassy parking area, used for parking at events, has been fenced off with a beautiful rail fence. If you look closely at the grassed area, you may notice its inspiration!

Throw Back Thursday - 1852, In the fifteenth year of Her Majesty Queen Victoria's reign, James O'Hara Jr., gentleman, was appointed Lieutenant of the Seventh Battalion of the Hastings Militia.

Some updating has been taking place at our kiosk. This step brings an updated map of the homestead area, as well as space to introduce visitors to its story and to promote current events. The map was painted by one of our talented summer students. Watch for more to come!

There are always surprises at O'Hara. If you find yourself thinking you've seen it all before, you just aren't looking! This is but one surprise, created by one of our volunteers. These are best viewed in the fresh air of winter!

O’Hara Mill holds a special place in many hearts, and many hold a special place in the heart of O’Hara. Our Board happily works with families looking to honour their family members’ memory in a place that meant so much to them. A new way you can honour the life of a cherished family member at O'Hara is through the planting of a memorial tree with a dedication plaque in the O'Hara Memorial Sugarbush.
