Optimal Human Performance 26.12.2020

Allow me to reintroduce myself. With having received confirmation that I passed my final Masters exam, I can officially say that I have completed my Masters of Science in Physiotherapy and am excited to call myself a Physiotherapy resident/intern. While I will continue to coach and run what I have built the last 4 years in Optimal Human Performance, I have also accepted a full-time position as a Physiotherapist with @pivotalphysio at their ARC (@arc_pivotal )and High Performa...nce Centre locations. I am excited to add to their already great team with a strong background in Strength and Conditioning and growing clinical skill set. I have experience working with a wide demographic including professional and amateur athletes, a variety of orthopaedic injuries and everyday people. I have clinical experience ranging from private practice, intensive care, outpatient neuro and arthroplasty. I have a special place in my heart for team sports and strength sports. My anticipated start date is December 21, but stay tuned for more information.

It’s a wrap. Barring a surprise failure, I’ve officially wrapped up my Masters of Science in Physical Therapy. I came into the program looking for answers and I came out with more questions (a good thing) and some lifelong friends. ... Forever grateful for your unconditional help and constant support. We did it. Stay tuned for what’s next.

You’ll always regret not training the position you were injured in. @drandreospina Understanding the physical requirements of a sport and common injuries is essential when working with athletes.... While we can never truly prevent injury we can prepare the athlete to withstand the demands placed upon them with graded exposures below the threshold for injury. Most acute injuries in basketball occur to the knee or ankle as a result of landing in compromising positions or rapid deceleration/acceleration. Some of Maya’s movement prep to address this included: 1 Ankle Inversion Bridges 2 Ankle Inversion Lunges 3 Non-sequential Broad Jumps 4 Low Grade Plyometrics in Multiple Directions

Just because something falls within your scope of practice, doesn’t necessarily mean you have the best skill set for it. As a trainer/coach it’s within my scope to train individuals for weight loss, but it’s not something I’m great at. As a soon to be Physical Therapist it’s within my scope to treat some vestibular conditions, but I don’t have any specialty training or much experience with it.... You need to know what you’re allowed to do, but you should also know what you have the skills for. Sometimes the best thing you can do is make a referral.

If you spend a lot of your day sitting or just want to get your hips ready to go pre workout, give this a shot. 1 90/90 Internal Rotation Liftoffs Tense up hard and try to rotate your thigh forward to peel your foot off the ground.... 2 90/90 External Rotation Passive Range Holds Use your opposite hand to rotate your thigh up towards you, squeeze hard and try not to let the leg drop at all. 3 90/90 to Bear Sit Isometric Movement Path Pivot off your back heel, trying to keep your knees as far apart as you can while staying upright through your torso. Let me know how it goes!
