People with lived experience have been active in OICH for years, with our Peer team growing substantially in the last several. For those interested in learning about developing "Nothing About Us Without Us" in practice, check out the upcoming webinar organized by #StimulusConnect! About Walking the Walk: Across Canada there is growing interest in ensuring that the principle of "Nothing About Us Without Us" is not only honoured, but truly respected. Facilitating meaningful inc...lusion of people who use drugs by offering attendance alone is a fail. Rather, people who use drugs must be stakeholders with equal standing in all aspects of implementing conferences and events. But how do you do that effectively? In this #StimulusConnect we will look at the experience of the national conference Stimulus 2018: Drugs, Policy and Practice, you’ll hear how we ensured people who use drugs led the way in the organization and delivery of the event, including the implementation of an overdose prevention service. Walking the Walk is organized collaboratively and held by the Canadian Drug Policy Coalition (CDPC) Stimulus Program, the Canadian Association of People Who Use Drugs (CAPUD) and Association des intervenants en dépendance du Québec (AIDQ). Simultaneous French/English Interpretation will be provided. This is a free event with no limit on the number of participants. Please register below

Alcoholism is a disease, it’s not a fault and sometimes your family will abandon you for that.

Wow!! We are absolutely floored. The Public Relations students at Algonquin College fundraised a wopping $11,903.94 for Ottawa Inner City Health through their Courage to Care Campaign. This incredible group literally embodied courage, compassion and dedication to this fundraiser. Their school campaign started and was cancelled right at the beginning of covid. It was really disappointing- all of their in person events had to be canceled. They were told they didn't have to go... forward with the fundraiser. But their commitment and dedication pushed them forward and they made all kinds of online events. I have never worked with such a group of unique, talented, funny and dedicated students. Jeff, Owen, Scott, Morgan, Danielle, and everyone else from the Courage to Care campaign: from the bottom of our hearts thank you so much. You guys persevered during covid, all your other schoolwork and everything going on. You guys give us hope for the future. Can't wait to see what you all accomplish. For Tyler. In your memory

We are just beaming right now. We just had some volunteers drop off a TON of backpacks absolutely filled to the brim full of warm winter gear, blankets, sweaters, snacks, water, first aid kits and more. Thank you so much Sarah Ladouceur and team. The community care we see here fills our hearts. It makes such a difference to our community. These were a group of friends who decided to get together and put a call out to their networks for these items and we are so grateful!

For those of you who know me, you know that I believe that when you thank someone you need to be present in the moment and in a grateful state. So here I am, remembering all the amazing people who helped us and being ...Continue reading

FB Followers, does anyone have any books that meet this criteria? LF: -a book of animals -lots of photos -not a lot of reading required. ... -not child-like Recipient does not read or write very well but LOVES animals and could use some positive distraction! DM us and we can coordinate (we don't have a ton of space for donations at this point, because of COVID PPE storage but the need is there for specific things from time to time. Black lives matter. We stand with our community and for our community. We check our white privilege. We understand the ways our clients who are poc experience more barriers to housing, substance use disorder treatment, higher rates of incarceration and other forms institutional racism. Black lives matter. #ottawa #icantbreathe
