Fiat Chrysler proposed today to merge with France's Renault to create the world's third-biggest automaker, worth $40 billion, and combine forces in the race to make electric and autonomous vehicles. The merged company would reshape the global industry: it would produce some 8.7 million vehicles a year, leapfrogging General Motors and trailing only Volkswagen and Toyota. As many as 12.3 million late-model cars may have defective airbags that won't deploy in a crash, and as records indicate, at least eight people may have died as a result. An ongoing investigation by the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration into airbag control units manufactured by ZF-TRW found evidence of two crashes involving 2018 and 2019 Toyota models in which their airbags did not deploy. The Nürburgring Nordschleife in Nurburg, Germany isn't just a track for anyone who wants to push his or her car to its physical limits. It's also a home for several manufacturers that assess their cars, test mules or not, for road-worthiness. Toyota Motor Corporation is one of these manufacturers. However, it looks like Toyota won't be hitting the Green Hell anytime soon from this day forward. The Japanese marque has commenced partial operation of the Toyota Technical Center ...Shimoyama a new research and development facility located at the heart of Toyota City in Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama is 650.8-hectare (1,608-acre) facility that houses specialized test courses, high-speed test courses, vehicle development facilities, and a country road test course. The latter is a 5.3-kilometer (3.3-mile) track that's similar to the Nürburgring, albeit, with a 75-meter (246-foot) change in elevation. It takes advantage of the local topography and features a wide range of curves and corners. Seen on the image above, it looks like the 3D crosswalk is a viable solution to help reduce speeders in areas where pedestrians and children are plenty. Tesla has reported a net loss of US$702 million dollars through the first three months of 2019. Current revenue for this quarter came in at US$4.54 billion, down from the US$7.23 billion of the previous quarter. The massive losses can be attributed to a 31 percent drop in deliveries from the previous quarter which saw a US$139.5 million profit. Nearly 63,000 units were sold; 50,900 were Model 3s, while the rest were the more expensive Model S and X vehicles. The Model 3 in pa...rticular has been notoriously difficult to get off the production line, which has resulted in fewer deliveries. Tesla has been trying to claw back some of the cash by closing stores, laying off employees, and transferring to online-only sales.
