Safe, gentle protection for you, mama! Because we know that breastfeeding is amazing but can also have its moments. Like those first few weeks when you’re both getting the hang of it, and latching isn’t perfect. Or when teething begins and they decide to test those new teeth. This all natural nipple ointment really does the trick! In the first few weeks, apply before feeds and allow yourself some air dry time after each feed. Use for spot treatment on any chaffed areas as well. Remember to use code OILBABIES10 this month on any of our teething items in the shop! #breastfeedingsupport #breastfeedingjourney #breastfeedingtips #breastfeedingrelief #breastfeedingmama #breastfeedingsupport #breastfeedingfriendly

This had always been a favourite question of mine, and when I taught prenatal classes we would cover this for hospital births. Even for home birth we recommend you have a bag packed just in case. Here is my list of basics: -newborn pj -newborn hat -4-6 diapers unless your hospital doesn’t provide any then you’ll need more... -non petroleum bum cream to help get the sticky newborn poop off -blanket -undershirt but not a onesie. It’s tricky with the umbilical cord clamp -touch rollers: lavender, frankincense, geranium, helichrysum, stronger -washable breast pads -popsicle pads -undies for mama, dark colours -robe -phone charger You’ll also want your own pillow, a change of clothes for both parents, healthy snacks, and your infant car seat. To see the full list of oils and how-to for labour, grab a copy of my book pregnancy to post partum available in our online shop. After yesterday’s post, I had many messages and questions asking what non-hormone based birth control is there? It’s no surprise to me that so many of us still don’t know this, since medical options are the most widely promoted and quickly offered. The pill has been given for such a wide range of women’s health issues, from acne to hormone manipulation, yet we rarely hear about the damage it does. I won’t get into that today, but I do want to talk about my favourite birth c...ontrol option, one that actually puts the control in your hands. The rhythm method is ancient and one of the best ways to not just plan your pregnancies or avoid them, but to also know your body better. You’ll need a few tools: -basil body thermometer. Take your temp upon waking every day for three months straight. -something to record your cycle tracking. It could be an app like Ovia, or just the notes in your phone, or even a notebook beside your bed. -write your temp down each morning. I do this before my feet hit the floor. -record daily feelings, both physical and emotional. You will see a pattern emerge -record your period days and flow (spotting, heavy, light) -get to know your cervical fluid (more to come on this) and record wether it’s thing, thick, egg whites, glue-like, stretchy, watery etc -record your cervix potions. High, low, soft, firm. Can you see why women tend to just jump into popping a pill or a patch? To get this control, you have to take it. But it’s only until your rhythm becomes apparent. You’ll see the pattern emerge, even with unpredictable issues. This isn’t for everyone. Nothing is. You do what works for you. But just know you have this option. Ladies, it’s time to show your body some love. Too often we are taught to hate or be ashamed of the natural wonders of our reproductive system. Too many of us struggle with hormone and cycle issues. What if, from as early as 8 or 9, we taught our girls how to respect and care for their reproductive health? What if we demonstrated better choices that impact our cycle health? -eliminating dairy -eating fresh/whole foods and less acidic ones -regular exercise -no synthetic hor...mones (ie the pill) -clean omegas daily, like Lifelong Vitality -cleansing twice a year -natural options for your period, instead of traditional pads and tampons filled with chemicals. Washable pads, silicon cup (coming soon to our shop!) -oils to support hormones and reproductive health. Doterra’s Clary Calm roller is a great place to start. Let’s rewrite the narrative for our girls. For us. Check out our fertile ground cleanse program. I remember holding my firstborn, minutes old, and thinking to myself you’ve helped so many mamas breastfeed and get a good first latch, you can do this! I assumed it would just happen without effort. It was a natural process right? But I quickly learned that it’s ok to ask for help, it’s ok to have a lactation professional check their latch, and it was totally normal to feel a bit nervous about those first few days of nursing. Thankfully I’ve never had a supply issue, my ba...bies all fed beautifully. I couldn’t pump and ounce to save my life but I always had enough milk. That’s not the case for everyone. Here are a few tips for ensuring the best start for breastfeeding: -skin to skin immediately after birth and as much as possible in the first week. -have baby’s latch checked in the first 24 hours, and checked for tongue tie - feed often! It can take a few days for your colostrum to transition to milk -avoid artificial nipples for the first couple of weeks. Your nipples will thank you -avoid ingesting daily amounts of peppermint oil until you’re milk is well established. -pumping will not tell you how much milk you produce. -only work at increasing supply IF you’re told it’s low. You can induce engorgement otherwise -ask for help. There are amazing lactation specialist and post partum doulas with this support available. #breastfeedingsupport #moremamamilk #oilsformoms #oilsforbabies #essentialoilblends #newbabytips #newbornbasics #breastfeedingtips See more
