Every year, the ‘Kanji of the Year’ is announced at Kiyomizudera temple in Kyoto. The 2020 Kanji of the year is (Mitsu), which may be translated as ‘dense’ or... ‘density’. It is a reference to the ‘3 mitsus’, or ‘3 Cs’ in English the Government’s recommendation to avoid closed spaces, crowded spaces and close-contact settings during the pandemic. We’re hopeful that the Kanji of the year in 2021 represents a brighter future!

Hello staff and students of OJLS! We are having our Annual General Meeting this coming Saturday, November 21st, at 12:15 PM. This year due to COVID-19, it will be a virtual meeting via Zoom, contact information to follow. It will present as a webinar, and should take no longer than 20 minutes. As always, we welcome all students and people interested in joining the board to attend, and help guide the school. The Ottawa Japanese Language School has decided that the Fall 2020 semester will be held online and there will be no in-person classes offered. Online classes are available, and registration will begin at 12:00pm EST, September 8th, to September 12, 2020 finishing at the same time 12:00 pm EST. Good morning everyone. We regret to inform our students and staff that we will be closed due to school closures regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus), for the next 3 weeks, effective immediately. We will keep everyone posted as this develops, and hope that everyone remains safe. From March 14 to April 5th, there will be NO CLASSES due to the Ontario government announcement to close public schools as a safety precaution against COVID-19. Applicants must have been an OJLS student for a minimum of two consecutive semesters and have clearly demonstrated a commitment to furthering their knowledge of the Japanese language and culture.
