Grades 4/5 students enjoyed an educational, fun, and hilarious interactive virtual field trip today from Barkerville Historic Town. They got to be jurors in a courthouse drama based on an actual court case from 1868. They were very engaged in the experience!

The Terry Fox Run looked very different this year with students being separated by their learning groups and the older students not being allowed to escort the younger students, but energy was high and it turned out to be a success. Some of our students completed the run (approx. 6 kms) in well under an hour!

Home and School is ready to get started for the new school year! We want ALL parents and guardians to join us as we plan events and brainstorm opportunities for our school community. Grades 4&5 have been learning about Salvation the past 3 weeks, through an archaeology theme. Today they went on a dig to unearth ancient shards with Bible verses on them. Next class they will figure out which shards belong together, what the theme of each set of texts is, and what part of the salvation story they relate to.

This year is the 40th Anniversary of Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope, and Okanagan Christian School is proud to be continuing the legacy of one of our greatest heroes. We have had a fantastic first week back at school. These are the amazing results of just one or two classes when we have an incredible PE teacher who is also our terrific music teacher! The grades 4-6 kids have learned the first half already.

As schools all over the world temporarily close due to the COVID-19 pandemic, educators have shifted to remote learning. Some may even refer to this change in learning as a new normal for education. With technology now the prominent means of facilitating student learning, teachers and students are trying their best to find new avenues to stay connected through video conferencing, and other digital educational platforms. With such challenges, it is my opinion, that this chan...ge has led to a new perspective. I believethis setback can be seen as an opportunity for many students and families to connect and learn with each other in meaningful ways. My 7th and 8th grade science students have been working on creating a model of the digestive system project for about 2 weeks. Students were encouraged to use recycling materials they had at home for this project. Throughout our daily check-ins, I could see how engaged and excited they were about this learning opportunity. I must admit, I wasn’t too sure how this project would turn out, due to limiting factors but I knew that my students were capable of completing the tasks. To my amazement, students not only met the required standard but went above and beyond expectations! One student went as far as making an educational video, which showed how he created his digestive system model for his project. Karenda Enka Swain

Hello! Everyone hanging in there? Anyone feeling like they’ve had enough quality time, bonding over homeschooling? We’re posting this song, from our Shining Lights talent show in March, as a reminder to keep being Happy Together!

Someone has been busy, chalking our walk with uplifting messages for this Easter weekend! Since the school won’t be getting a lot of traffic right now, we had to share this artistic effort here. Happy Easter everyone! The promise of grace, redemption and victory over the grave are a timely reminder right now. Jesus lives, and He is near!

Big shout out to Rainman Irrigation and Lawncare. They thatched and raked up the growzone today for us, free of charge.

Usually at 8:30 Monday morning the centre of our school is teaming with students, teachers and even a few parents, as the entire school, K-12, meets for Circle Time. We sing some songs and share a devotional to start the week off right, together with God. It’s such a sad feeling to see it now, silent and empty. We are still together in spirit, and God is still there too, but we can’t wait to fill this space again.
