Did you know that tarantulas shed their exoskeleton? Molting is the process by which the tarantula sheds its old exoskeleton and emerges in a new, larger one. Rosie, our resident Chilean Rose Tarantula, molted recently creating a complete copy of her to add to our jar of her previous exoskeletons. In the photo of Rosie in her cage, she is the one to the right, while her exoskeleton is on the left.
Despite today's uncertainty, we're certain of this: empowering the next generation is the key to the future we haven't imagined yet. That's why we are proudly sponsoring @scienceworld's #GirlsandSTEAM Virtual Symposium on November 7. Learn more: http://bit.ly/girls-steam

On Aug. 11, 2020, Science Centre staff and volunteers moved a 21-foot-long, 567-pound animatronic dinosaur from a Kal Tire truck and into a prominent location in the OSCs Discovery Room. Dyoplosaurus were common to North America 75 million years ago and the herbivores armoured body included a club at the end of its tail. Fossils were first discovered in Alberta in the 1920s. Our new friend needs a name so get creative and submit your suggestions to our website, www.okscienc...e.ca. The top three names will be selected by staff and then the winner will be determined by Fans Choice. Along with bragging rights, the winning entry will receive an OSC prize pack. Submissions will be accepted until 5 p.m. Aug. 22. Watch the OSCs social media channels for more details. #okanagansciencecentre #dinosaur #dyoplosaurus #prehistoric #paleontology
