VETERINARY RECEPTIONIST WEEK-let’s give our team some love!! Absolutely vital and key members of our team. Let’s meet them one on one Geri Allan-Helmer has been with Okanagan Veterinary Hospital for the majority of its 19 years. We currently only get this wonderful lady a few times per month as she keeps herself very busy with her family; however, we are fortunate to have her when we do. Geri can out wit us all and can manage our most chaotic moments without batting an eye. She’s full of smiles and sass and keeps us on our toes. Thank you Geri for putting up with us all!!

Has your pet had a wellness exam recently? Why they are important: Wellness exams give us a chance to evaluate the overall health of your pet while also giving us a baseline for their own unique bodies and tendencies.... They also allow us to detect potential problems before they become serious, and even make your pet more familiar with our veterinary hospital, making future visits easier on them and you.

When we mention brushing a pets teeth, we often get looks that vary from the amused to the incredulous. Just the idea of sticking a toothbrush in Kujos mouth and scrubbing away seems impossible. And after all, hes only a dog! Well, dogs and cats develop dental problems even more often than humans. So how often should you brush and what should you use? Its tick season! Dogs are very susceptible to tick bites and tickborne diseases. Vaccines are not available for most of the tickborne diseases that dogs can get, and they dont keep the dogs from bringing ticks into your home. For these reasons, its important to use a tick preventive product on your dog. Tick bites on dogs may be hard to detect. Signs of tickborne disease may not appear for 7-21 days or longer after a tick bite, so watch your dog closely for changes in beha...vior or appetite if you suspect that your pet has been bitten by a tick. Talk to your veterinarian about: The best tick prevention products for your dog Tickborne diseases in your area To further reduce the chances that a tick bite will make your dog sick: Check your pets for ticks daily, especially after they spend time outdoors. If you find a tick on your pet, remove it right away. Reduce tick habitat in your yard. https://www.cdc.gov/ticks/avoid/on_pets.html
