Being in Kelowna these past few days has been such a joy even in these uncertain stressful times. Surrounded by the beautiful wineries of the Okanagan inspired ...me to share one of a number of wine cellars we have had the privilege of working on. Having really special clients and our super talented Welsh heritage stone mason Roy of @r.bellconstruction along with our ability to source authentic architectural antiques and salvage, resulted in the creation of a pretty outstanding wine cellar. It started with a rare ancient Gothic oak door with its original cobbled stone surround. It was a wonderful find from the UK. It would become the entrance to the stone cellar! To create an authentic space we supplied antique and hand-dressed carved stone, French limestone cabochon flooring, 18th Century French carved stone trumeau fireplace sourced directly from a vineyard, ancient stone sink and many decorative items including riddling racks, wine corkers, presses, hedgehogs, etc. The mason created a space with a look of such authenticity, it’s quite easy to think that maybe you are in a wine cellar in Bordeaux in some medieval town like St Emilion! Actually this is a beautiful country home in Kananaskis. Doug and I have a combined 60 years of experience, sourcing everything from spiral staircases to French stone chimneypieces to a complete 17th century tithe barn! If you are planning to build a cellar or even a winery and you want authentic stone, beams, floors, presses, accessories, we would be happy to source for you!
