Staff Bios Continued! Jesse Penny - Service Advisor Jesse has been with OK Tire & Auto for eight years. Prior to this, Jesse worked in the attached Shell gas station. When we closed the gas station, we offered Jesse the job as service advisor and he jumped at the opportunity. If you have talked with Jesse, you’ll know he’s professional, thorough, and has a great sense of humour! ... Jesse loves the work atmosphere at OK Tire and the friendships he’s forged along the way. When he’s not at work, Jesse spends his time playing guitar (guys, he’s in a BAND and has been for the last ten years!), gaming, camping, golfing, walking the dog, or just relaxing around a campfire. Jesse is an avid sports fan and loves the Baltimore Ravens, Nashville Predators, and the Portland Trailblazers. Jesse’s favourite foods are steak and cheeseburgers. Although Jesse was born and raised in Fort McMurray, he now calls Okotoks home along with his lovely fiancé, Courtney, and black lab Ripley (aka Pupper). Jesse & Courtney are engaged and were supposed to have their wedding in August of 2020. Because of Covid, plans had to change and they are looking forward to a new date this summer. We wish them the best. When asked about Jesse, Shayne says, Jesse is a loyal and passionate employee who always delivers the highest level of customer service. Continuing on with our staff bios! Kurtis Rowe - Journeyman Technician & Shop Foreman Kurtis joined our OK Tire family 14 years ago! What Kurtis values most about being a part of our family is having a great boss, honest mechanics, the business is family owned, and he enjoys the group atmosphere. ... Kurtis’ first car was a 1955 Chev Belair which he bought when he was 14 years old. He put a lot of work into that car to get it running and on the road. At age 16, he decided he could self teach and possibly become a mechanic since his father was a single dad who worked away from home a lot. Kurtis has always lived in the Foothills. He was born in Calgary and moved to Okotoks in Grade 3. By grade 8, he moved to Blackie, and then after high school, he moved to an acreage. Kurtis has called High River home since 2010. Kurtis met his lovely wife, Amanda, when he was 20 years old. Together, they have two beautiful daughters aged 5 & 11. They also have two dogs (a dorkie named Zeus and a standard poodle named Corbin). They also have a cat. Kurtis and family love to scare the crap out of each other (which would explain why he jumps out from behind a corner at me when I come into the shop.). In his spare time, other than scaring his family, he enjoys camping, fishing, off-roading, dirt biking, quadding, building custom off-road trucks, and classic vehicles. He enjoys war movies and action / adventure. His favourite food is steak and lobster. If you’ve ever looked at OK Tire Inc’s web page or OK Tire’s magazine, Kurtis is one of the friendly faces representing our company and all independently owned OK Tire stores across Canada. We think that Kurtis was destined to become a technician as he has owned over 60 cars and trucks. About a dozen of them are classics. When asked about Kurtis, Shayne said, Kurtis is hard working, loyal, and reliable. His willingness to continue to challenge himself in our ever changing industry and share his knowledge with those around him, makes him a valuable asset of OK Tire. GET TO KNOW OUR OK TIRE FAMILY! Susan O’Donovan - Office Manager (Susan is so incredibly efficient that instead of responding to my questions, she wrote the entire profile for me!)... "I have worked at OK Tire with Shayne and Tara since they took over in 2007, but I have worked there for 30 years (this January) as I worked for the previous owner. All the employees are great to work with. The owners are great. I enjoy the work I do. I was born in Caton, England. At seven, my family immigrated to Canada. We lived in Deux Montagnes, Quebec for two years. Then we crossed the country, with our old brown station wagon and a tent trailer to move to Calgary and then to Okotoks. I have lived here since 1978, only moving out of Okotoks for short periods of time. The town sure has changed a lot but I still love this town. I have three adult children, Kayle, Kathleen and Dylan. Kayle (30) lives in Calgary, Kathleen (28) lives in Sparwood, and Dylan (27) lives in Okotoks. They are wonderful young people and we are very close to each other. It's been them and me for most of their lives. I have a rescue dog, Alfie, from Cochrane Humane Society. This is my second dog from there. Shout out to them they do such great work there. He's a mix between a shepherd, husky, and who knows what else. ;) He's an awesome companion. I also have a cat, Pancake, a ragdoll. She has been with me for 12 years now. She's a bossy little thing, but is a great cat. Always meowing at me to do something for her. She loves to take over Alfie's bed. I enjoy all kinds of music. My favourite song is Basket by Dan Mangan. I really like Rural Alberta Advantage and Weakerthans. I enjoy hiking with my dog, reading, True Crime podcasts, fly fishing and spending time with my family. I’m not a big watcher of sports, though I enjoy watching all sports during the Winter Olympics cheering for Canada. Teams I most like to cheer for are Calgary Flames, Montreal Canadiens, Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Raptors. My favourite food is Chinese food." When asked about Susan, Shayne said, I have worked with Susan since March of 1997. Susan is a dedicated, honourable, trustworthy and dedicated employee. ***Tear jerker alert***. Over the years, we have been fortunate to have amazing and supportive customers. Recently, a long time customer ("Santa" / Jim Braun) came into our shop to meet with Shayne to discuss another loyal customer. "Santa" has been a lifelong friend of this loyal customer. This person has been hit with life's struggles but recently was diagnosed with a rapidly progressing and incurable disease. Santa asked Shayne and I to help him help our friend when th...eir truck needed a new motor. They were moved and speechless when we delivered the letter. Thank you, Santa, for helping this family who needed extra support and love.
